I was recently in northern Michigan and came across a fawn nested down in the grass. I thought that by the time I get my camera from the cottage, it would be gone. To my surprise it was still there. After waiting to get a decent pic, she finally moved and this is what I captured.

Any particular recommendations?

I feed them first thing in the morning, around 5:45 am, and was thinking about it this morning. Maybe placing an old plastic chair in the area and letting them get used to it. Usually about 6 of them come but it can be as low as 1 or as high as 15.

I have the house near by and all I have to do is just open a window and start shooting pictures. I put feed out in the early evening so they have food at night and in the morning. They're out just before the sun is up and when the sun goes down. As to feeding them...I feed them apple flavored corn in a big 20 gallon bucket-pan. The chair ideal might work...try it and see...might take awhile for them to get use to it.

OK! Thanks. I feed them COB, corn, oats and barley, and have been doing so nearly 10 years. One of them is a stag that I have been feeding since he was a youngster and he comes ever so close about 4 inches from my legs. Hard to resist touching him but I do!

I have put the chair in place and will start by just sitting still before the Nikon comes out!

With respect, do you mean a mule deer, blacktail deer or whitetail BUCK or are you talking about a European STAG?

“Columbian black-tailed deer. Nearly a dozen subspecies of Odocoileus hemionus are recognized. Of these, two occur in Oregon - the mule deer and Columbian black-tailed deer, often just referred to as "Black-tailed deer."

I just looked at the Oregon site you referred to. I read what it says but believe the written dialogue is not correct. There are generally three species of deer in America, Mule deer, generally in the Western states, Whitetail deer, generally in the Eastern states and Columbian blacktail deer generally in the states of California, Oregon and Washington. Even the photos under the dialogue you read shows photos of the whitetail deer. Many states, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming and others have both mule deer and whitetail deer.
