They just don't make lens mounts like they used to.

As I posted a week ago, my D7200 met a similar fate falling off a bench. I can, unfortunately relate

My T4i tumbled out of my hands (I was no longer wearing/holding the strap as I *thought* I had secured it to the tripod) and fell 25-30' to the rocks below.

I watched it all in slow motion as I cursed myself for letting go of the strap and nearly went over myself as I tried vainly to grab it. I'd had it just over a week.

I berated myself nonstop as I walked around the house and into the yard. It was dark out and it took me a minute or three to find the camera, RF remote control receiving unit and lens cap.

I lost the battery cover for the RF remote control receiving unit (fiberglass tape to the rescue!). The camera still worked. The lens was fine. Not even any scratches. Didn't keep me from continuing to cuss myself out the next two hours.

Last summer my wife and I were in Wyoming on a remote road. My wife was crossing the road and stumbled and dropped a camera on the lens which broke off and rolled across the road, just in time for a car to come around the bend and run over it. Hadn't seen a car for an hour and didn't see one for another hour afterward. I'm glad they took out the lens instead of my wife. And they didn't even slow down.

rook2c4. yeah. the lens has a street price of $600.00. Thing is made of plastic. $600.00 for a plastic tube with glass inside. IMHO, we as consumers are paying far too much for just about everything we buy. I have several friends who were CEO's of national and multinationl companies. All are retired now for a number of years, and all admit that my assessments are true. They also noted that IF we would just stop buying all these THINGS , companies would lower the costs to reflect a more honest profit to cost ratio. BUT,we are a gotta have it mentality, that we simply feed the excessive profit machine.

I had a Contax RTS II with a Zeiss Distagon 25mm F2.8 fall of a tripod. Boy do I hate Manfrotto tripod heads. Ripped the lens mount right off the camera. The body cost me only $150 to replace, but only because the repair guy had a "donor" body he could scavenge for parts. I was not that lucky with the lens. It cost almost as much to repair as it would have cost to replace with a good used copy.

Many years ago I was on a small runabout on the St. Lawrence River. At the dock the engine died. Some helpful person lifted the engine cover not noticing my Nikon f-3 on the seat. It took a bath. After a trip to Nikon Repair it was fine. Never should have left it on the seat.

This sort of thing seems to be happening more and more. Some people just don't understand how much money is lost by not being more careful or appreciating what you have. I have two children who never paid attention to those things, and they ruin more stuff than you can shake a stick at and then just run to the store and buy a replacement, over and over. Some will say that is my fault for not teaching them better. Could be, but I sure as he77 tried because I know what my Parents did without so that I had things that sometimes I didn't need. I have always tried to take care of things and make them last, but this generation seems to be gimme, gimme, gimme.

One evening returning home I got out of my Van, grabbed my camera bag and swung it over the seat and my camera went flying out of my “unzipped bag” and hit hard on the asphalt and the lens split apart and silent wave motor parts scattered across my driveway. See below picture. The camera only got a small scratch. I figured it fell about 5 feet. I took all the parts to Precision Camera in Enfield Connecticut. With a tear in my eye holding all the parts asked if it can be repaired. She said “I’ve seen worse” with a smile. Two weeks I got it back working better than new and cost only $225.00. My bag always get secured every time I touch it🥴
