Been away for a few weeks cruising off of and into the fjords and waterfalls of Norway and visiting in Denmark. Fantastic scenery, terrific people interesting museums and plenty to do. Internet is terrible, slow and often just not available. Here are some pictures of our first port of call , Oslo, Norway. The Vigeland Sculpture garden is the work on just one man and it is amazing. At the Viking Ship Museum it is hard to imagine how these hardy people went so far on such small ships on a vast ocean. The Kon Tiki museum its another head scratcher as to how someone who believed
lived up to his expectations.

Nicely done and thanks for the kind words - a displaced Norwegian is happy you enjoyed your visit. The viking ships you saw in the museum would not do well at sea and were probably ceremonial. Reconstructed viking ships, like the one that visited Erie a couple of years ago, are better contructed and with better clearance to the water, but the lines on the museum ships are truly beautiful.

Great set marsdad. I agree regarding Norway, it's the most beautiful country we've ever visited. We were there in 1973, in and around Oslo and then took the train to Bergen and back. We took a two week cruise last July out of Bergen to Honningsvag, Scotland and London; amazing. I've been working my way through post processing about 2,000 photos and am about 75% done. I'll probably start posting in early August.

I've attached a couple of scanned slides from our 1973 trip of the Viking ship that I think you will enjoy. The photos were taken with a fixed lens rangefinder Minolta.

It was quite an engineering feat for the Vikings to build those ships. Just look at the lines. In their day they were the fastest things on the sea. Just cutting the planking to form the hull must have been a major operation. They even made it to the western hemisphere in those things. We know they tried to settle the southern coast of Greenland.

Your pleasing set brought back memories. I was on a tour of Scandinavia with my mother, sister and a friend but we only got as far as Norway. My mother became ill and died in Oslo. It was only thru the kindness of the wonderful people we were able to go through such a tragedy. We did enjoy the marvelous
Vigeland sculptures and visit to the Viking Ship Museum. Thank you for this post, marsdad.

Thanks for looking and commenting DJ,much appreciated. Looks like we hit many of the same spots, although you took many more pictures than I did, only 1000. It’s a wonderful trip and I would encourage anyone to make the effort.

A Viking tower in Rhode Island, huh? I would like to see a picture of it. If it is purported it means they ain't got no idea what it is or who built it. Food for thought. Could it have been an earlier civilization on this continent?
