This is a little beetle that I found in the yard today. It is the first time that I have found one like it and I do not know what it is although I do know that it can fly quite well.

Thanks in advance to all that view and for your comments, suggestions and critique.

A Chrysomelidae.
May be related to cucumber leaf beetles and the like. Garden pests.
???
Pretty shot.

Thanks, Bill for the ID. It was quite small and its red color caught my eye as it sat on the green leaf. It flew a bit and then settled back down as it agreed to be a specimen for a photo session.

Beautifully and somehow even lovingly rendered! I enjoyed just gazing at it in DL.
Bill is right, so off to BG and in a few moments... https://bugguide.net/node/view/21644

Mark, there's always a bit of cleanup to do when the pin appears in the image. Sometimes I get lucky and the pin is out of the camera's view, other times it shows but is away from the subject. At times though it ends up among the legs and that takes a bit to get it out of there.

Focus stacking also produces some "worm trails" for several reasons that show up in the background that have to be removed.

I find that very small subjects end up with a more solid background for the area of focus is much tighter and the larger subjects end up with more gradient backgrounds due to the laws of the fall off of light and the less than perfectly flat colored paper I use.
