"Size priority" would be a smaller file to conserve SD card space if it was almost full. You will still get photos, but less quality for blow-ups. To the eye and on the screen, they will look much the same as "Quality" priority.

(Need more cards...)

I’m finding jpeg image quality when maxed with Sony’s 42MP A7R3 at 3/2 or 16/9 aspect ratio to seldom require PP. But that camera allows RAW images to be simultaneously shot and stored if the PP need arises. Usually jpeg PP is limited to slight light/contrast adjustments.

I am no expert in JPEG images nor I make any claims to be one. With my cameras I use optimal quality.

Seems the best way to go if one is consistently happy with the hi-res jpeg product.

...make 'em as big as he camera will allow. If you need web quality do it later in post.

To paraphrase an old pilot's credo - there's no use for runway behind you or altitude above you. Shoot the largest image size available and downsize it later if you have to.

Once edited I save in high quality and then save lower quality with an S suffix for use sending in emails.

Not sure if you use a PC, but in Windows 7/10, when I email images, what I do is Ctrl + Click each image I want to send in My Pictures Folder, then right click one of the images and select Send to email recipient. They will attach to an email, and ask me if I want the size to be Small, Medium, Large, or Original Size? I usually select Medium Size for sending via email.

In this way I don’t need to separately save a smaller size image in my Pictures Folder. Just a thought.

I didn't know that! Thanks!

Go for optimal. I have 1000 jpg photos I took on a trip to the southwesr. Trying, I guess, to save money, I shot most as compressed to save card space on a Kodak Easyshare camera. Stupid, stupid stupid - i have a bunch of images I cannot print larger than postcard size now.

In jpeg compression... best to go with Size Priority or Optimal quality

I shoot large size, fine quality with my Nikons. Even an 8gb card gives hundreds and hundreds of images. I have always been very satisfied with my jpegs set for optimal size and quality. Even my D50 produces hundreds of images with its 2gb card limit.
