I liked the contrast of the reddish pipe against the sand and water. There is some controversy about these drains, as they bypass sewage treatment plants and empty the untreated water directly into the ocean.

Looks best in download view.

Nice one Bill. I love the sky... And your right, the red does something for it.

Some people don't like raw sewage being dumped into the ocean? They must like going to the beach and swimming.

STORM drains... Run-off from streets. Same thing that runs into rivers.
They don't treat run-off.
NOT sewage from anyone's house.
BIG difference.

I don't know of any location that treats surface run-off.

(( Y'all do realize that there are TWO sets of drain pipes in the ground, right? ))

Our son and his family live in California within walking distance from the ocean. There are hundreds of miles of what look to be empty canals that are used to divert rain water from the city street catch basins back into the ocean.
They estimate that over 90 percent of the total rainfall is sent to the ocean. If these canals could catch the rainwater and hold it and then be used for watering the lawns it would be very beneficial to the state.
Thank you for your photo posting!

Storm drains are runoff from the streets, NOT sewage drains.

Good thought, but that would require massive "lakes".

Thanks Frank - I appreciate your comments. The sky was pretty interesting, and I'm also finding if there is red anywhere in a beach image it seems to add a little zing.

Thanks for commenting Jerry. I read up on this a bit, and it seems like more attention is getting focused on the whole practice. There are a lot of contaminants that get mixed into the rain water (feritilze, animal fecal matter, etc), and some towns are even posting warning signs advising people not to swim after a heavy rainfall.

Thanks for commenting Longshadow. You're right, the runoff is not sewage.

Nor do I, and I don't think NJ will even be thinking about it anytime soon.
