Hi All was at an especially good wichipi or pow wow at Hinkley this past Sunday. When I got home I realized I had shot an obscene amount of images. I have been working on several with the idea of expressing the emotion, movement, and beauty of the dance in fields of thirty or dancers at once. I can safely tell you it was dizzying So Please enjoy at least this one out of nearly 4000 images. RBorud.

One year many ago we hosted a student from France whose parents sent him to hone up on his English. We took him to a local Pow Wow and when one of the dancers discovered who he was they decided he needed to Native Dance. He sure got a work out. I have always wondered what stories he told when he got back home

I particularly like the capture of perceived movement, and the colors are rich and vibrant! Hat's (or headdresses!) off to you!

I love your primary dancer, and enjoyed the ones behind him also. But, as with another Wipichi image of yours that I recall, the distant background is distracting. The number of elements (bits of people, bits of tents, lots of colors) doesn't work for me, especially with the largest tent sort of a dull gray color.

Thanks for the opportunity to both admire and dissect your art, Russ

I think you would have been off by cropping tighter, using much less vignette, and without blurring anything. If you wanted blur, you should have gotten that in your exposure instead.

Thanks abc for your thoughts and comments and useful information. Even if we do not really agree, it lead me to an even better way, to my eye, to present this, but I do thank you for the prod. I am not sure you would stil approve but I like it much better. RBorud

Thanks for responding. Please bear in mind that I see this first through my own photographic sensibility. When I began to get serious about photography in 1959, lenses were soft, films grainy, colors so so. Many, many photographers wanted to overcome that and, fortunately, technology progressed. For me, digital is a dream come true and how I first judge photographs. That being said, each and every photographer can and should developer his or her own ideas and not apologize for it. What they should apologize for is grasping on to the fad or preset of the day.

I am sure you have a few more interesting shots so post them. A close-up of the dancer's face might prove interesting.

Everyone learns differently and many start out by exploring pre-sets or fads, then discarding or expanding from there. No one need apologize for where they are in their journey or interests, and most especially not here in PP Forum.
