I've never sold a piece in my life, at least during the three decades I've been shooting. Wix is offering 50% off until 6/21 that's either a net cost of $11 a month or $8. I was briefly on another site that would sell your photos as stock but there were so many restrictions in terms of consents [to say nothing of the style they were looking for] that I dropped that quick.

Does anyone have any thoughts specifically about Wix.com? It looks like it hasn't been discussed here for some years. Also I have a wordpress site -- undeadphotos.com -- which I've always considered a portfolio and never converted for use with sales. Are either suitable for selling your work?
I've never sold a piece in my life, at least durin... (show quote)

I use wix as one of my sites....address link in my dog. I use other sites also.... With wix you have to your own leg work....I guess you do with any sure. I use the free one. Unlimited uploads. Right click use. And good variety of products in the store. I can't remember who the print company is. Mine is not real pretty, but usable.... You can also create a folder for a client with a password that only they can see the photos/purchase. I'm at the point where I'm thinking of going to a paid site, maybe somewhere else....I believe smugmug uses Bay photo, one of the best..

In order to be found you must have good keywords and a catchy address, especially if you want to be found in searches. If your only intent is for friends and clients, not do much so.

You can purchase a domain at godaddy.co pretty cheap.

Here's a link to are view of the top 10. Wix didn't make the list... https://hostingfacts.com/

Some use WordPress.... Which you needed to be a programmer to use.... Most are click and drag, with some allowing (wix does) you to customize. Wix has great support, even for the free ones, because they want you to upgrade of course..... Some/ most do not give support untill you upgrade.... Of you start with wix they will give you that deal often......

It all boils down to what you want to do with the site. Do you want to be found in searches, seo, would be a good need, with has this... If you only want a sure for friends and clients and future referrals, then wix might be a fit.

Don't judge by the looks of my sure. I'm just getting started and trying it out. So far I'm happy. It serves my purpose. I just need to redesign it to look pretty.....you set your own prices in the store. One drawback is you have to upload a photo twice if you want it in the store..... The store is separate and had a separate area to upload to..... Basically you have two sights. A portfolio and a store with a link to the store from the portfolio.

Hope this helps..... Good luck in your decision.

Thanks for your response. To clarify: I have Wordpress, linked to a custom domain. Other than the yearly fee for the domain mapping, it's free, but the lack of tools [like a way to organize photos rather than having them in one big pile] is frustrating. I will try MAMP as well Envira and zenfolio to see how they work.

Check out the MediaFileOrganizer plugin ( http://wordpress.org/plugins/media-file-organizer/ ) which allows you to create folders and organize files/images into folders, great little add on but does require a full featured host like Dreamhost to work properly.

I started with a trial of WIX, and did not care for it. I am currently building a site on Smugmug. I'm 90% happy with the results. I still haven't figured out how to do a couple things. I attended a couple free webinars, which helped. You get a 14-day free trial, which you can extend another 14 days. After that it's a pay site with various levels. If you like it and subscribe using this link, we both save 20%. https://secure.smugmug.com/signup?Coupon=JjSnRG

Thanks for your suggestions of MediaFileOrganizer and Smugmug. I'll be spending time with all the platforms and plugins that have been suggested, and try to give each enough time and attention to form a semi-informed decision.

Some members of PPA recommend ShootProof.com and Photobiz.com, for full service. They look interesting.

Thanks for your reply. I'm going through the earlier suggestions and unfortunately some require a paid subscription before allowing add ons.
