Luminar gives you a whole series of photo variations of your picture and quickly. Better than you can do in an hour. I don’t think it’s fair for you to condemn a fine program like this when you probably have not updated your video card drivers which is a must.

Hi kpmac,

I've installed ON 1 on two computers. One is Windows 10 and the other is Windows 7. It is slow on both machines while PS CC is quite fast. ON 1 is especially slow when using the clone-stamp and healing brush tools. Anyway, thanks for your response. Take care & ...

Windows 7? Seriously? They do not recommend using on 7. It can be done, as you have discovered, but it is slow.

Re-read the system recommendations. I have no problems whatsoever. Windows 10 Pro, Dell desktop and laptop Core i5 (I'm not even running a Core i7 machine).

If Adobe, for whatever reason, decides to abandon PS, you are fcked if you have a subscription. They are already trying to push users off previous versions, warning them they "no longer have a valid license." I'm still using CS 6 extended.

"Oh, but they'd never do that?"

Really? Ask former GoLive users what they think about it...

Hi Group,

In an effort to get off the month subscription, I recently purchased ON 1 software. It does everything the advertisements claimed except it is very SLOW in doing so. It is definitely not going to replace PS CC subscription for me. Question: Have any of you switched to Luminar? What are your thoughts regarding that program? Take care & ...

I recently dropped the monthly subscription and have looked at Paintshop Pro, On1 Raw, Luminar, and Affinity.

Affinity (for me) is the strongest candidate because it allows me to use layers, masks, adjustments, and selections much like PS. Affinity also somewhat emulates the PS layout, so tools and adjustments are easier for me to find. Affinity also uses some of the same keyboard shortcuts as PS, which makes the transition easier for me. I've had some help from Simon Foster and his Udemy courses on Affinity workflow, and Affinity Raw processing. I've been able to duplicate my favored techniques used in PS, and my Topaz and Nik plugins work in Affinity as well.

I also purchased ($20) FastRawViewer. It allows me to rate and color code my raw images. And like Lightroom it also allows me edit images in Affinity, or other defined editors. In FastRawViewer I can export to either Affinity Raw, or Canons DPP4. So I like the flexibility.

I also found that ON1 Raw is slow. I have a robust Win 10 machine, and hands down Affinity is faster in opening and post processing images. ON1 Raw, on the other hand has some effects that are very useful to me.

It really boils down to individual tastes, workflow, and opinion.

Tough decision. Wish you well!

Are you using On1 2019.5? I have it and have found it to be much faster than 2019.2. If you have .5 open it up and see if your GPU box is checked. Go to >Edit >Preference>System and check the box at the bottom right of the page. If it is not there your computer is not recognizing a usable GPU. I had to upgrade my video driver to get this to work. Good Luck.

I use ON1 on my MAC desktop and I have never had problems. I enter all my photos through Lightroom and these photos convert automatically to ON1 whereby I edit all photos in ON1. It works seemlessly.

I have both running on mid 2011 27’ iMac with 36GB ram running off a SSD. So way older than some of the pc hardware mentioned in this thread. On1 is the fastest by far almost twice as fast as luminar 3. And much faster than my copy of LightRoom 6. Probably since is uses a browser system rather than a database (catalog).

Then there is something wrong with your computer! On1 19.5.1 is super fast. Things to check for a fast system. 1:Processor should be i7 , 6 to 8 cores 2: ,Memory 16 Gigs Min 32 much better. Open GL 3.3 Min. And it would help if your HD was a SSD. with these perpetrators you can set your scratch disk to maxim to gain more speed If your using min components set your scratch disk to a lower setting.

I've never tried ON1 or Photoshop; I had been using Sony's Playmemories Home, which I enjoyed, but I wanted to go further so I bought Luminar 3 (the latest version is 3.3.1), and am very happy with it. I am on a PC with 16gb ram and a hard disk. Opening it from the app takes about 45 seconds, but loading all the photos in the library takes mere seconds. Prior to that recent update it used to take longer. I'm just a hobbyist and am taking my time about mastering all it can do, but I can't imagine ever needing more. Last night I noticed that currently there is a sale on it for $49 for perpetual license. On their website they spell out their "roadmap" for updates that are in the works or planned, all of which are free and automatic! They also offer tons of free "looks" and presets, many of which are very cool and big time-savers (they also have many to purchase as well). Lots of free tutorials, too. I am not a pro, but Luminar 3 meets my needs beautifully and I am very glad I went that route!

I have recently given ON1, Luminar and Affinity a try and found all of them to be (significantly) slower than LR and PS. I ran all of them on a somewhat outdated machine, which likely made the performance differences more noticeable.

I have On 1 and Lumniar. Both run take a while to load, but once loaded they both run quickly and without problems. On 1 has more features (more control) and a larger learning curve, but Luminar's features are easy to use and work very well. I tend to use Luminar for easy touchups and On 1 when I want explicit control over every part of the post-process. Both programs are gpu and memory intensive, so your equipment makes a huge difference.

One major concern is the amount of memory available on your graphics card. More memory = faster processing.

Try Capture One. It's a little expensive compared to ON1 but it is way faster even in old computers and I really love using it and I'm lot looking back. They have a 30-day free trial if you want to try it. I have also used ON1 since the 2018 version but the very slow speed especially in the Develop preview and the very very slow exporting were just very frustrating for me. In the develop mode it would take a good 8-10 seconds to regenerate a photo preview before it becomes clear but the slowest is the exporting...it will take at least 3-4 minutes to export a simple photo with a simple adjustment. That was not acceptable to me. The 2019.5 version kept on crashing, I could not even work on it. Compare that to Capture One, preview is instant and exporting the photo to jpegs or tiffs will only take 4-5 seconds. I have been using Capture One for Sony for about 4 months now and I'm really happy with it. Luminar is a great app, easy to use with lots of filters to play around but I use it mostly as a plug-in after Capture One. Luminar 3.1 as a stand-alone app is still not as matured compared to Capture 1 or Lightroom though has greatly improved in terms of speed of its photo management. Hope that helps.

I have the latest version of both ON1 & Luminar running on an iMac 27, i7, 16Gb, 1Tb-SSD. They both run very fast. Had a small issue with Luminar and their support is less than adequate. Still have PS6 and LR5 but don't use them for much. Just dropped Adobe and its CC subscription service this month. Haven't missed it at all, but I'm sure there are some that can't live without Adobe's PS & LR and will go to great lengths to justify their position. It's irrelevant, because we all have our own needs and requirements.
