Whatever you decide, post some pics, and tell us how you survived. Have fun.

Ha Ha, I love all the comebacks. Yes my wife loves a great Hasselblad camera. I won't buy a camera that expensive. It is the photographer that creates not the camera. But most of all, I'm not big on status symbols. Sure, I wish I could afford an expensive car. But why would I spend a boatload for a chrome plated icon. For me, I manage with my used Honda just fine. The money saved can be allocated for something else. Just remember, with all the Hoggers here, you will get 50% for one and 50% for the other. While everyone has a good and even great point, I have a different philosophy. My thought is this, why spend extra money for a camera that works just fine? You also need to learn the user manual. With the extra money you save, buy great souvenirs for family and friends. I splurge and get nice picture frames. Then, I put my photographs into these frames. If you like my ideas, great. If the reader disagrees then buy the LUMIX. IMHO, that is my 2 cents.
In any case, have a great time and post the photos please!

Well... I did it, I ordered the G85, a second spare battery (it comes with a spare), and a lens adapter for experimentation with my Nikon glass. It took a sizeable chunk out of my PayPal, fun-money account, but I think it is going to be money well spent. Other than a couple of inexpensive point and shoot digital cameras purchased over the last 15 years i've never purchased a "good" camera new. This should be interesting.

CONGRATULATIONS!

I wish you a safe travel, a beautiful vacation and a safe return.

Put the camera through its paces and make sure you have lots of memory cards. Don't forget to post your work for all of us to appreciate.

As for the LUMIX G85 I'm not very familiar with the camera. I'm reluctant to buy anything if what I have suits my purpose. Besides, my wife won't let me buy anything new. We have two kids on college draining our retirement funds.

Enjoy your new camera and have s great time.

Congrats! I think you'll be very happy with the G85. I got the G5 Menu Simplified on my Kindle, which was helpful. I'd be curious to know how well the lens adapter works out, as I have all native lenses. Enjoy!

All us 4/3rds owners think you made a very good purchase and you now have your first brand new really good camera. To maximize the shrinking of your camera system, be prepared to add one 4/3rds lens, preferably a zoom lens, to your system. The adapter will work well but will not usually be conducive to fast photography. I have an adapter for my older Olympus film lenses. The best made Olympus film lenses are also the best lenses to use with the adapter. Many of the cheaper lenses do not do as well since it requires more resolving power for the smaller sensor. But I can promise you some of the good lenses can do as well as the lenses that are actually designed for the format. I use my 90mm f2 macro film lens (120mm f2 macro in 35 equivalent with 1:1 ability) and it does terrific up to f8/f11 when diffraction starts affecting the sharpness. Also, most adapters of that type will normally require manual focus, aperture mode, and possibly manual exposure settings.

It sounds like you made a great choice! Please post some photos and your thoughts about your new equipment after you have a chance to enjoy using it on your multiple vacations. I'm thinking about doing the same thing for travel. Enjoy travel with your family and your new camera!
