Is there a way to unclog a print head. THe black head is clogged on my canon printer. Went through all the diagnostics on the printer. It will make copies but not photo prints. Probably caused by disuse.

I've soaked my Canon print heads in hot water when they have clogged.

Thanks. Worth a try. Even if it doesn.t work the thing is 5 years old, maybe it's time f0r a new one. Maybe I will use it as a copier and get a photo printer- the canon 100. Or just have the commercial graphics shop in town for the occasional print

The printer I'm referring to is a Canon Pixma Pro 10. I believe the problem was a result of using non-canon ink cartridges and letting it sit for too long. Now I stick to Canon ink and run off a periodic test page.

Several years ago, I tried using third party ink on my Canon i9900 printer. Well, in short order, heads became clogged. So on eBay, I found Magicinkjetflush. I used it and the clogged head opened up again.

It sounds like Bob has solved his problem. Hey, why not treat yourself to a new printer?

This would be the perfect time to share a secret (?) that I've been using for several years? My insisting to use only Canon ink is no secret. Lost one Canon print head from third party ink, and learned my lesson. Nothing but Canon ink for me. BUT, before you say: "it's $15.99 per cart", there is a way to cut your cost in half or more. I learned from one eBay Store in which they go to various camera stores and other retail stores who sell name brand printer ink in factory boxes, like what we see on peg boards. But I think you all would agree with me in saying "I don't want to spend $15.99 retail if the card board box is damaged." So these eBay stores purchase all those ink carts in damaged boxes. Then they offer them on eBay, sometimes with no box but still inside the sealed plastic wrapper, and you can see that the cart still has the pull-off plastic seal over the print head section.

After reading earlier messages here, I went to eBay. I bought one PGI-9 Yellow for $8.99 and a PGI-9 Cyan for $6.99. Oh, both offered with free shipping. I'm sure there are similar offerings from these eBay stores for Epson and HP photo printers.

I have the Canon Pro 100 ..... I have a similar problem, but it is not the heads getting clogged .... what I have to do to get the printer to print correctly is to remove the print head and then re-insert ....

I have always understood that Canon Photo printers have separate print heads. Years ago I had blocked jets on my i9900 and a new head assembly cost me £65. My current 9500 Mk2 is constructed the same but so far no issues. Incidentally in the UK several quality compatible ink suppliers guarantee the printer should their ink cause a problem. Also there are cleaning cartridges as already mentioned. Amazon and eBay would be my first call. Good luck.

I ruined the print head on a Pixma Canon printer using third party ink, so I am in agreement with you to use genuine Canon ink. Thanks for the tip to search eBay for Canon ink in damaged box or w/o a box!

You are most welcome. Don't get me wrong, I support my local camera store. I've bought all of my L type lenses from them, as well as my first 5DII body. Well, and some accessories too. But I buy my ink using the method mentioned here. I think it's win-win.

I have had excellent luck with LD Products in California. Been purchasing their ink for years. I don't have a Pro 100 like most of you. I print on an MX922. Never once had a clogged head using their ink. And sometimes go weeks or even months without printing a photo. It's about 1/3 the cost of retail. I had 2 cartridges over all that time that weren't recognized by the printer. Excellent customer service. Replaced both immediately. And I haven't experienced that problem for years now.

I used them once but I was not happy with the colors. Great customer service though. When my printer died, they accepted my ink cartridges for a full refund.

I'm not as deep into photography as many are here, so probably my expectations aren't as high. I do a lot of 4x6 printing and an occasional 5x7 or 8x10. I am pleased with the results I get.
