Just to clarify, the black hole picture was done with radio telescopes and is not a photographic image. Being an amateur radio astronomer, I want to make sure the radio astronomers who did this get their due.

Definitely not possible with an optical camera as mentioned by several before - WiFi is radio not optical. If they actually made the image using WiFi intensity to power LEDs and then waved those around to make an image (which is what I think they did here) - that may explain the image???

This link is to an article about photographing wi-fi signals. What do you think? Could you capture this kind of image with a DSLR?

This is total BS.

Sure, just like you can photograph x-rays, cosmic rays, TV and radio broadcast waves, cellphone transmissions, etc. NOT!!!

The technology to do this has been around for decades. This chap has just made it available as an interesting app.

It doesn't really "reveal wireless networks sweep surround us". It simply assigns colors to WiFi sub channel strength which is actually quite easy to do.

Does he tell people that someone is waiving the phone around to make the pretty patterns?
People will think that's what the radio waves actually look like around them, which is a misnomer.

From what I see in the picture, he has some sort of multi-led contraption on the end of a string and is swinging it around. The contraption "MIGHT" be sensitive to some wavelenghts, but it is not a picture of the waves. Kinda like walking around taking pictures of a thermometer and then claiming you photographed heat!! I agree with PT Barnum....
