To all of you in Southern California who are as interested in the Big Boy locomotive 4014 as I am, the Union Pacific Steam Schedule has announced that 4014 is scheduled to be in Southern California on a special steam powered passenger excursion on October 12 & 13 2019. As I wish to see it again I will probably be somewhere in the Pomona area on those days.

Now that news will draw one heck of a crowd if it is anything like 4014's recent trip to Utah!! Good news and I will look forward to the photos of events.

I'm hoping to get a ticket on the Pomona excursion.

I wanted to go on the Ogden to Evanston excursion on May 12, but at $3,000 and $5,000 for tickets for a 3-hour train ride, I just had to pass it up. That would be a lot of happy hour margaritas....

I spent 8 days chasing 4014 in Utah and Wyoming in early May. Took a few billion pictures as well as many videos. Here's my favorite video from my trip, 4014 & 844 leaving Ogden UT at 8:00 a.m. sharp on May 12:

@russelray; I have a feeling the tickets will be as expensive in Pomona as they were In Ogden.

I don't think they will. Tickets for the excursion to Boone Iowa were $500. I do expect Pomona to be more expensive than $500 since Rail Giants is where 4014 sat for 52 years, but not near as expensive as Utah for the 150th anniversary celebrations of the first transcontinental railroad.

Sadly, though, 4014 never pulled into Promontory for the 150th anniversary celebrations. There are no tracks leading to Promontory since they were removed during World War II when metal was in short supply.

4014 and 844 were stationed in Ogden UT at the historic 25th Street depot.

I might want to go on that excursion. Where can I get tickets? If two expensive, What is the route that this train will be taking? If feasible I'll go to a place where I could take some pictures of it passing through.

The schedule and route are not set yet. You can keep up with what's going on here:

Considering the schedule that has been posted for the Omaha Railroad Days and then the trip on up to St Paul, Minnesota and on to Chicago starting on July 8th and into August with an end date of August 8th, I can guess that the trip to Pomona will take at least a week. Anyway I would bet there will be as big a crowds on these upcoming trips as there were from Cheyenne to Ogden and back.

The crowds were huge back in 2011 when 844 came through. I'm expecting even larger crowds with 4014 because we all miss her at Rail Giants where she sat for 52 years. It's good to see her back on the rails, though.
