I had a Yashika SLR in the early 70's, but then came children, and out went the photography for the most part. Now, I have the time and the desire to shoot birds and other wildlife in Florida, and NJ. I want to buy the Nikon D7500, but I'd like opinions on which telephoto, teleconverter and which 35mm lens to purchase.
I have $5K to spend, but that will include a bag, tripod and some filters too. I've be reading reviews until my eyes are blurry. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to UHH, The D7500 is a fine camera
I use the AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4E PF ED VR with a TC-14E III 1.4x teleconverter on both my FX Df and DX D7200.

Joe,

Welcome to the forum. I use a Nikon 200-500 Zoom. Super sharp at all fields. I would couple it with a D500.
Have fun using whatever you buy.Post some images and ask questions. A great way to learn.

Welcome. The D7500 will make a nice birding camera coupled with a Nikon 200-500. There are several other choices, too. Sigma and Tamron make several zooms up to 600mm and the reviews for the newer generation s are good. Have fun.

Hi Joe
Welcome to Hedgehoggers! I recommend the Sony A7 II. For under a Grand, you get a 24-70mm lens. I recommend a Sirui Tripod, B+W Filters. To be in a budget of $5,000 check out Tamron or Sigma lenses.

Welcome. Birds and wildlife being what you want to photograph the D500 might be a better choice with it's dedicated focus processor. The 200-500 5.6 Nikkor would be the long lens to consider for use with a tele converter, a 1.4 converter would give you f8 while lenses with smaller aperture would not auto focus.
