I would like to get into some night time shooting in urban areas, downtown buildings, marinas, waterfront walking areas, perhaps more remote areas for star trails and Milky Way vistas etc., no sketchy areas (urban decay type areas). I am 6' 3" and 205 pounds and can take care of myself, but when looking through a viewfinder, one can lose track of one's surroundings and in general, when carrying expensive gear, two people is just plain safer. If anyone has similar interests and concerns, please PM me and perhaps this could provide new opportunities. I'm not looking for a large group or anything like that, just another person, possibly 2 at the most who may have the same interests and concerns. I am located in Washington state in the Browns Point area of Tacoma. Initially, for urban photography I would go as far north as Seattle and as far south as Olympia.

People who label you "paranoid" simply don't KNOW Tacoma (or Seattle, or maybe even worse; Everett, in Heroin County). However, Browns Point is PHOTOGENIC!

I have been working on a long term project photographing Santa Monica at night. I have never been bothered. I had a photographer come up to me one night and he asked me why I was making a photograph of a place and I told him that I liked the arrangement. I will be putting together a book soon on this work.
Or a Kimber .45 and a CCW.
Look at MeetUp.com. It is likely there is a photography interest group near you with people having similar interests.
A local camera club may fit the bill as well.
That and a hip buddy.
Maybe a thread should be started for this purpose.
I often shoot in Philly and a second person would help for sure.

Smart request. Can’t say that I wish I lived in your area and could agree to buddy-up for nighttime photo shoots, but if you want to move to Boulder County, Colorado, I’d like to do some night shoots with a photographer who knows what he’s doing. I think I could learn some without being a pain, and a teammate of your stature would be more of a deterrent to unpleasantries than another 5’9” 165 pounder. Yes, a CC Permit and appropriate hardware are useful, but if one ever has to rely on that, life has likely changed for the worse regardless.
And do not believe those who say “Don’t worry.” Craziness is abundant. I was challenged just A few weeks ago in front of Home Depot by a guy your size who decided he’d park his pickup in traffic in front of the door. I was headed out and had the gall to give his truck a second look that, I guess, did not convey approval. At 75, I’ve learned to keep my 🤐, but he was loud and proud in challenging me on the spot. Very combative. As I drove from the lot, his truck was still parked there. He was still in the store.

Meetup is a good answer, there are several groups in Philadelphia. I've seen one group that has a street walk during the day once a month.
I belong to a meetup group in Oaklyn NJ, about ten minutes from the Ben Franklin Bridge, South Jersey Photography Group. We meet once or twice a month, one for review of our photos and another as a workshop. We were in Chinatown for the Lunar New Year and a shoot in Cape May NJ was canceled because of rain.
We're open to new people, workshop this Thursday night on shooting flowers. We have people come from all over the area.
Oh and I agree about having someone to watch your back, I try to have my head on a swivel but like many others age is catching up to me.
