As you may have found out by now, if you throw a Raw file to it, it puts you in develop mode. If you give it any other format file it'll move you to edit mode. It's pretty slick. I'm new at it myself.

to me the term develop and edit are about the same. maybe edit is something done to an image that has been developed.

philo, I'm with you. I'm using Affinity regularly. In fact, I'm studying their workbook, which seems excellent. But back at the computer, I 'get my way around', but I agree. Develop and Edit seems pretty similar. I believe a difference may be working in RAW or non-RAW.

Mine is a Windows version. Version 1.7 overwrote the previous version.

I use Win7 and upgraded from Serif. What I was concerned about was if my Topaz plugins were still there.
Happy to say all is fine. What "buggy" are you people seeing?? How many of you are using the Designer program with Infinity Photo? It is like using PaintShop Pro and Corel Draw. With the sale offering still on, just asking for input and info.

I haven't done mine yet, but I assumed the new version would overwrite the old one. That didn't happen with your upgrade?

-------------
The new version installs along side the old verson instead of overwriting it. I will have to check because I didn't know version 1.7 was out of beta yet. I'm trying out the beta and either last night or Tues night it wasn't released yet.

"Develop" and "edit" might be used interchangeably by some when talking generally about post-processing of images. In Affinity, "development" refers to the processing of raw files in the "Development" module (as gessman said, if you open a raw file in Affinity it will automatically take you to the Development module).

The "Photo" module can not work on a raw file. It first has to be converted to another format during the development process.
After development, the file is moved to the Photo module for further editing if you wish.

The confusion comes in because there are a lot of overlapping adjustments that you can make to the image in either or both modules. I'm still trying to figure out how to build my workflow around that...

It looks like for most respondents the new version did overwrite the old one. I hope that happens when I get around to installing my update!

Affinity 1.7 installed itself into program folder without over-writing previous install and without creating a new folder. The new installation provided everything except language files. I created a new folder, called it " affinity new" copied all the new files into it. Then compared it with original affinity folder and copied missing files to "affinity new". Everything worked fine so deleted original folder. Created new shortcut and all is well. Hope this helps

Yes I checked and I have only 1 Affinity folder under program folder and only A sub folder called "photo". That's my story and I am sticking to it!!!

As well as Affinity Photo, there is Affinity Designer and from 16th of June Affinity Publisher , Designer and Photo can act like modules for Publisher.

What? No monthly bill, No new version requiring you to pay $100+... How can Affinity be any good ! ! ?
Perhaps I should ask Adobe... I am sure they have the answer if they are not too busy hiking fees.

Thanks for the alert, I will upgrade my Affinity.

Dpullum, remember, Adobe had to start somewhere. I've been told that back in the early 1990's, it began as share ware. I can't imagine Affinity always remaining at the current price, but time will tell.

In the meantime, let's enjoy it, and let's pass the good word around.

I want to add, while I was very spoiled by Bridge, thanks to fellow members of UHH, I learned of the wonderful RAW browser called FastRawView. It cost only $19.99, and well worth the price.

Thank you my fellow members.
