My Fields

This is what all my farm fields look like today, thanks to continual spring rains, instead of soybeans that should be about six inches tall by now.
It isn’t just me; it’s farmers all over Indiana and the entire Midwest. Don’t be surprised when grocery prices go up due to all the spring flooding.
Corn planting should be at 100% by now, and in my drives around central Indiana, I’ve seen a total of five fields with corn planted in them. The last Purdue crop report said that only 14% of Indiana’s corn is planted. I have never seen a spring this wet so late before. Unfortunately, there’s rain in the forecast again for three days this week. I feel for the farmers.

So sorry! OK and KS farmers are in the same boat! Yes, prices will go up and farmers will suffer through sparse harvests! :(

As a neighbour once said to me when I inherited my farm in the early 80's :
"Welcome to farming, the banks are against you, the markets are against you, and worst of all, gods against you!".

Pretty weeds, John, but I know that's no consolation! We need more rain down here but I'm almost afraid to say that. It would be our luck to get it from a hurricane.

I give greater props to the person who photographs out of a sense personal involvement with their subject than I do with those who shoot what others have shot, but only did so out of a sense of 'I suppose I should, too.' Whether that involvement is economic, or social, or aesthetic, is not my point; its that the involvement indicates a 'being a part of' as opposed to a 'being apart from.'

Sorry about your rains, John. My respect may be of little consolation though.

Thanks. We’ve had two completely dry days in a row now, but storms are headed this way again tomorrow evening.

Nice shots John. I feel for the farmers as well. It's going to hurt everyone.
