Beautiful capture.

Thanks Ernest. Every time we go I head out on foot before dawn just to marvel at the light in this area. After a cup of coffee though. You can turn in every direction and conjure up a desirable shot.

Was back recently and always love the scenery. Nice shot!

Thanks John. Maybe of interest to you: this was shot with an Olympus Pen F, 12/40 Olympus, off a tripod with manual cable release. It’s what I take on vacations rather than a dslr. For this trip I also rented an Oly 7/14. I liked it a lot. Sharp as a tack.

Thanks for the info. Which lens were you using for that beautiful photo? Those are both Pro lenses. Don't know how you knew I am using Olympus but I appreciate the information. Previously, with my Canon and when I first started with Oly I used only the cheaper lenses, and some deliver pretty well. But as I'm getting more serious, I recently bought the 12-100mm, f4, Pro. This is my first use of a Pro level lens. While it is heavy, it should cover most scenic photos with no need to change and it's very sharp. I have the 75-300mm, if there is any wildlife and I can change lenses quick enough. Heading to the central Oregon coast next week.

Small world. I had not seen your name before so clicked on it and your bio says you currently use Oly. That’s why I said what I did. I have not invested heavily in Oly glass and only have two, other than what I rent. From my experience every Oly Pro lens I’ve used has been fantastic. I suspect you’ll be pleased. You might look for Roosevelt elk when around the Oregon coast range. Inland a few miles, not at the beach. Look for meadows with heavy brush/cover nearby. Your 75/300 would work great for them. Dawn and dusk, like deer is when they move to and from water. I grew up on the south Oregon coast, in Bandon. You should find some great photo opportunities along Hwy 101 when there. It’s truly majestic. You never know, so be prepared for rain and or gale force winds. It can happen any time. Perhaps not while you’re there. The wind creates great scenics with the twisted leaning shore pines, cliffs and ocean. Have a great trip. The shot here was with the 12/40.

Small world indeed! We have a friend/guide in Portland that does trips from northern California to Olympic Nat'l. Park. Two years ago we spent a week on the southern Oregon coast and stayed in Bandon the whole week, going on day hikes. Loved the town and the area. Beautiful country.

Well I’ll be. You spent a week in our home town. Terry, my wife, still has family there. Mine are gone. Personal opinion, prejudice, most scenic beach in Oregon. Grew up climbing seas stacks there at low tides, etc. Back then it was not touristy. A logging and commercial fishing community. All that’s changed.

If you can get as far south as Reedsport do so. A few miles east on OR Hwy 38 is the protected Dean Creek elk viewing area. It’s salt marsh/meadowland. You can pull into the park area, and if fortunate you may see sizable herds of elk sunning themselves within easy reach of your long lens. It stretches for about a mile so plenty of opportunities to check out. This time of year they will be typically separated between cows and bulls. Not to miss if you can make it there. Worth a day if you aren’t staying too far north.
