we visited the ancient city of Pompeii. It was buried by volcano ash. One result was that bodies were vaporized, but encased in ash. When the voids were found, archeologists filled them with cement and the result was very detailed casts of these ancient people in death poses. Eerie and amazing all at once.

More amazing is the complicated society they developed. The homes were filled with art on the walls, they had restaurants, cafeterias, and spas. This is a day trip for anyone visiting this part of Italy. My private guide hired another private guide to show us the city, and tell us the stories of the people who lived there. It really is one of the most fantastic historic sites you can visit!

Visited there some years ago - amazing exhibition but a very tragic incident.

Spent hours there on the way to the Amalfi Coast. Suffice it to say, we never got to the coast. Pompeii is full of wonderful photo ops and fascinating history.
