Hi
I'm thinking of getting a new bag, especially since i now have an 70-200 f2.8 which makes my camera with lens weigh about 5.5 pounds (2.5 kg).

I'm using something similar to a black rapid sport strap which is quite comfortable but my camera bag is not so comfortable and dragging round a tripod as well. It's a fairly hefty load and this is supposed to be fun not being left feeling like some beast of burden.

Last Saturday I was in a wildlife park and I probably carried my gear for around 7 miles within the park. often i'm on tracks or fields so maybe something with wheels isn't the best option. The other problem was the rather cool morning turned into a rather warm day so my jacket became something else to tote, and i probably should have been carrying sun screen.

Any suggestions for a bag / backpack / case to address the problem?

Blackest - Take a look at the latest lines of rolling packs and backpacks at Tenba.com. Their most recent designs incorporate thoughtful features and excellent materials. Good luck. /Ralph

I just bought the Neewer rolling camera bag/backpack. First trip today, but so far so good. Price is right and quality meets the price, I am not disappointed. Going to Yellowstone, Tetons, and Glacier, so an opportunity to break it in. It has an external tripod holder but my travel tripod is in my luggage. Got through TSA without opening the bag. Gary

You might want to take a look at the Amazon Basics rolling camera backpack. It can hold quite a lot, has an adjustable interior space, a place to attach a tripod to the outside, a collapsible handle and adjustable shoulder straps for those places where the wheels wouldn't be adequate, like in grass. It's also fairly inexpensive. I've had one for about two years and it has yet to fail me.

I like my Think Tank but it is not what I would call light when filled with gear. It will hold several bodies and a few lenses and accessories and the interior can be rearranged easily. Cost is about $360 though. It seems very well built.

No. But I did recently purchase a Lowepro 13 x 32cm lens bag (for my Tamron 150-600mm) from a member "Hogger" and I find it to be an excellent bag. Just perfect for this large lens. ~FiddleMaker

I use the Lowepro Nova 200 Shoulder bag. I prefer shoulder bags over backpacks because you can retrieve gear while still holding the bag. Backpacks aren't easy to get gear out of without first putting the pack down.

I have a larger lowepro. While I find I can Carry my body+70-200/2.8 together, along with up to 3 additional smaller lenses, and various little pieces (spare battery, etc), I do find it a heavy bag, not only with all that stuff, but the bag itself. there is a nice tripod tie-down. There is also enough room for jacket, lunch, water, etc. The pack is waterproof and very comfortable. Just heavy.

I carried it up, with all my gear and spare clothing, Mt. Washington (3000 vertical and 7 mile round trip) in the snow in April and it worked well.

I am a fan of Peak Design. Great design, utility and features. Own their small 5 liter sling bag and camera straps. I know they recently came out with a back pack that is getting positive reaction. Their products are expensive but worth it.

I have used the Lowepro 250 AW Fastpack for about three years, the earlier version. I find it very comfortable to carry. I have packed the camera compartment with the following: Canon T4i body, Canon 77D with 70-300, Canon 10-22, Canon 17-85, Canon S-100, filters and miscellaneous chargers and back up equipment. The one drawback is that it is very easy to over pack. Additionally, the upper half will hold quite a lot of non-camera gear. t is my go to backpack for travel when I want to take everything onto the plane. Additionally, a tripod can be carried on the side.

The beast of burden thing is exactly why I moved to micro 4/3s! I hope you find your solution.

I've come to the conclusion that the bag isn't going to matter much if you are carrying a lot of weight. It's still the same amount of weight no matter what bag it's in. And some of the top rated bags weigh too much to begin with which adds to the problem. Sounds like you have a good strap so really what's left to change? Less gear> lighter gear> prime lenses for hiking? An assistant? Hope you find the solution.

i think the 250 lowepro fastback is pretty capable although its 1.8kg about 3 to 4 pounds empty!

The big question is can i still use the sling at the same time as wearing the back pack? I should know in a couple of days. It has room for my 15" macbook pro and an iPad and it seems a fair compromise on size not too small but not so big as to kill myself with the load.

This little battle

was quite interesting they went for a roller case that had the lighting in it pretty much. It was more than they needed for some pro results.
