Yes it is dark on the cats coat for certain versions 2/3/4/5?.. will improve I,m sure 🙀

Graham - is Matilda - the Siamese you are seen holding, in your Avatar?

If so - the darkness you've achieved - is that what you were going for? - makes them two different cats!

The camera, however - is not to blame. The Nikon D7100 is an extremely capable camera. You did good!

In my caring role life does seem a rush that's of no direct benefit to myself 😿

I was aiming for the black background but not the unexposure and flat look, however I was sort of expecting that, next time(s) I will be bouncing and or softboxing umberellaing !! is that a word.?

You know, Graham - a little story for you. In 2009, I ordered, and took delivery - of an all-leather 3-piece sofa set (sofa, love-seat, easy chair) … but, I had screwed up the measurements. When the loveseat and chair were placed in the room - there was no longer any room for the sofa!!! … So, I told the delivery folks to take it back, and have the company issue me a credit. Six months later, they send me a letter, indicating the credit will be lost, if I don't use it. So, I go into the store, and fall in love with this little red velour loveseat - cum day-bed - which, exactly matched the other easy chair (recliner) I'd chosen to keep. So, that was half of my credit. So, I looked around for something else, and eyed this eight-drawer high-boy - which would have been perfect for my socks and underwear, in the bedroom. But, when they delivered the items, I suspected they'd have a hard time, getting the high-boy upstairs, unless they took out the drawers. I enquired whether that was possible, to which the response was to tug hard at one of the drawers, and seeing they wouldn't come out, the delivery guy apologized for the damage, and told me to call the store to arrange a replacement. The following week, I went INTO the store to ask for an exchange - to which, the curt response - was to call the 800 number. Now, then, I'm always on-line - doing upgrades, so - calling 800 numbers, is NOT my thing. FF to January this year, and I saw the leather on the right arm of my easy chair, had started to split. (I tend to drop down in it, and my right elbow, hits first.) So, I called the store - finally - the 800 number, to see if I could get any joy on both counts. But, when she asked when I purchased them, as she couldn't find any record - I told her. Then, she explained to me - their records are expunged - every five years, and here it was - TEN years later - so - there was NOTHING they could do - even though, the damage to the highboy - had NOTHING to do with me. So, yes - you should take your time through life (it's the only one you've got - right?) but also - be fully cognizant of the world's restrictions on Time - that great leveler …. story ended … point made and taken - yes?

Thought it HAD to've been a different cat - Matilda's not even a Siamese - is she?

First off, Graham - it's umbrella - at least, here, in the US - forgotten how it's spelt, there, in England. And, no - I don't think there IS such a word, but, I suppose - you could patent it - huh?

It looks like the flash is near or on the camera, and directly aimed at the cat.

Try bounce light - much more flattering.

Agree have tried bounce and am going to move on to different position light and maybe tw light setup.
