Stupid things you've done while using your camera.

I took some shots of birds at my feeder today using single point autofocus. They turned out to my liking, mostly. Then I went out to shoot the sunset and never changed the AF setting. I'm sure you can imagine the results. Doh! Aah, well... I've got lots of other chances. It got me thinking though.

I'd be interested in reading about the faux pas of other members. I know mine isn't the most substantial or least common mistake. Please do share if you're so inclined.

Tried to sneak in a shot of hubby sitting in his chair smoking his pipe, but forgot to take the lens cap off, which gave him time to leave the room on some excuse.
Latest stupid thing was to grab a padded water bottle case to use for a lens case. Fit perfectly, but when I took the lens out there was sand all over the lens (thankfully capped). Heaven only knows where the sand came from - it's from a batch of old camping equipment that we haven't used in years.

Grabbed the nice Canon lens to take with me- the D7100 didn't like it.
I went from LAX to PA, and took the bad battery still in the camera.I left 3 good batteries on the table.
Didn't check at a family picnic- a LOT of pics have a nice kid's fingerprint on them.
And didn't re check the WB at a wedding- the outside pics are nice, tho ...

Yikes. Disaster averted through proper lens storage though. Glad the cap was still on. Good for you.

That's a lot of misfortune! Glad you ended up with at least some good results out of that batch of bad luck.

Coming back to Kantishna Lodge from an overflight of Denali and had shut off the camera and put the lens cap on. By the time I realized it had the cap on, I had missed the opportunity to get shots of a Linx that suddenly appeared in front of the transport van.
Lesson learned, the camera is always ready anytime I have it with me now.

pmorin, that really stinks! I'd be kicking myself for a while.

Having the camera with me, seeing something fantastic, and being in such awe or shock or whatever and forgetting to take a shot.

Back in the film days didn't properly engage the leader in the sprocket. In digital failed to check setting a few times and wondered why the camera didn't do what I wanted it to.

I'll never admit to making a mistake. They were all "experiments."

I like your avatar. I have one of them. He lives to bark.

Film days. Forgot to check for film in camera thus missing pictures of Ken Griffey Jr. at the trop. My one and only time I got to see him play. He is now in the hall of fame.

In the 70's I had Big Foot, an Alien, Loch Ness, and Yeti, all meeting in a cleaning of the woods. I approached stealthily until I had them all in my view finder. I slowly squeezed the shutter. NOTHING, I WAS OUT OF FILM.

Tough break. If you got the shot, you could have been famous. Going from one talk show to another.

I feel your pain. Many years ago I was at Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness and shot a whole roll of Kodachrome with the monster in clear view only to accidentally open the back of my Nikon F2 and lose everything.
