HELP. I have a MacBook Pro 2018. I also have Lightroom6 which I realized I should be able to install on it.
I am getting an error message that reads” cannot create the required folder” Looks like for presets.
Any idea of what is wrong? Is the disc too old?

You should check with Adobe.

For a Windows machine, the presets folder in the standalone LR6 software was created under the user profile rather than within the \pictures\lightroom folder. Is it possible of the software install task doesn't have the administration authority to create a similar folder on your MacBook? These are 'windowish' terms, but the install process is probably every similar, including analogous target folders for the default installation.

Do you have an existing LR6 install where you can compare how / where the software installs? Can you change / increase the authority of the install task or the security protections on the target folders?

You might try googling "lightroom cannot create the required folder". I scanned real quick and it looks like the LRQueen addresses my first guess: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/community/threads/lightroom-do-not-open-in-mac.26965/

Thank you so much. I guess I know what tomorrow’s task will be. Thank you again.

If your MacBook Pro is running High Sierra you may have a problem with LR6. I have LR6 on my MacBook Pro and Mac Mini. I recently updated my OS to High Sierra on both computers at the same time (big mistake) and now LR6 crashes on both computers. I have read that LR6 and older has compatibility issues with High Sierra and only solution is to scrap LR6 and go with LRCC. I am having some problems running and printing from CS5 now too. Wish now I had never updated my OS.

Goober, while I agree that you should have updated one at a time....I do not agree with your conclusion regarding the OS. Adobe made a decision not to upgrade the standalone version so that all new purchasers, and eventually all 'old' purchasers would need to move into their subscription model. I don't use Adobe, but I do upgrade most of my software. When I upgraded to Mojave, I found that many of my 32bit applications may be 'limited' in the OS. Microsoft 2011, Little Snitch, ....... It is not the responsibility of the OS to design their systems to always maintain compatibility with outdated software. Apple discontinues support for programs..Aperture...and gives you the ability to transition to Photos. LR offers the ability to transition your Aperture libraries. I am sure that Adobe's subscription services offer the ability to convert your LR6 as well.

I have a 2015 MacBook Pro with Mojave and stand alone Lightroom 6 and everything works great. I can't remember how I installed it but I don't remember having a problem so you should be able to do it.

A late 2016 "Pro" works just fine with LR6. Have you tried to create the folder manually?

I have a Late 2014 MacBook Pro running Mojave and LR6 with no problems. I had a new battery installed by Apple and wiped my hard drive prior to bringing it to them so they could upgrade the OS to Mojave. I installed LR6 when I got home and have had no issues. It has been about a year now since then.
