Hi Everyone,
I'm living in western Washington and been into photography since I was a kid. Started out with a Kodak Instamatic 100 (126 film) back in the sixties. Later, also had a Polaroid Swinger. In high school I took a graphic arts class which had a big photography part. We did all the dark room process with B&W film, Kodak Tri-X and Pan-X, later some slides with Ektachrome. I learned a lot about shutter speed, f-stops (depth of field), composition, learning from mistakes, etc. Later my Dad got me a Mamiya/Sekor 1000 DTL SLR. Took a lot pictures with it. In my college years it got stolen, but I later replaced it with a Olympus OM-1 with a 50mm 1.4 and a Vivitar 70-210mm zoom. After going digital with many years of point and shoot cameras, I got a Sony A6000 kit. Recently, bought a Tamron 18-200mm zoom lens (like the all in one aspect). Many of my pictures I took while cycling. When on my touring bike I have a handlebar bar that I keep the Sony in with a Tamron zoom, ready for pictures along bicycle trails or roads. I find many times along roads I can just stop on the shoulder and take a photo where it would be hard to do in a car. Plus, I go much slower (~12mph) so it's easier to spot picture taking opportunities.
I also have a Fuji Finepix XP130 camera for all those times the Sony is too big to carry. Plus the Finepix is waterproof for our rainy western Washington winters.
A beautiful way to take photos. The bicycle allows you to see the country in a much slower mode of travel. A whole lot easier to stop and take a photo. BTW, aloha Peloton and welcome too UHH.
The Mamiya/Sekor 1000 was my first SLR too. Loved the Pentax screw mount for the lens. There was no open aperture metering so you had to press depth of field preview in order to get an accurate reading. Fantastic basic camera but I loved it. Thanks for the memory!

Welcome to the UHH. I bike at least four times a week and always carry a camera just in case. Depending on the weather I can choose between my Panasonic DMC-ZS40 and my Fuji XP 130 although I usually take my Fuji XP130 because it's light and fits easily in the pocket of my bike shorts. And since it's the onset of the rainy season it will certainly be my camera of choice.

Aloha JoAnneK01,
I went to the University of Hawaii back in the seventies. I have a lot of pictures from there. Some are of the sunrise on Haleakala in 1976 while on a UH geology field trip.
Welcome to the Hog, enjoy.
