Visit to Lightning Ridge.
May 16, 2019 22:23:53   #
Bunko.T Loc: Western Australia.

A friend of mine is travelling around Australia with her partner, & sharing their many interesting outback visits with photos.
This series is of a well known "town" Lightning ridge. Famous for its Black Opal mining.
Because of its remote outback character, movies have been shot there over years.
The lure of riches in Opals, drew many characters, some made their fortune & moved on, others failed but remained & channelled their talents in other ventures.
There are many such small communities dotted around our vast country, all with their particular attractions.
Their remoteness is part of the mystery as to why people search for &, in some cases, stay & form part of the character. All have historical beginnings, but their was always a pot of gold to lure people to settle.
Our history has always been multi cultural, with the ever present Chinese, European migration was also a big part of our cultural development, but they all contributed to the character of our culture.
Although modernisation nowadays has created a split personality of City & country.
There is still no other country I'd prefer to be part of.

very interesting history and views of Lightning Ridge. There are probably a lot of stories waiting to be told or photographed of many small, off-the-main-road settlements.
