Selecting a camera or lens is a very subjective matter. Do you indeed need 45 Mp.? I surely do not.
The new mirrorless cameras by Nikon are their first serious attempt to enter the mirrorless market. I just learned there has been a recall and new firmware for the Z7. This is not uncommon for new products and the main reason why many photographers just wait a while before buying new products. They want to make sure that any problems with the camera are solved before they buy.
In my case, it is particularly difficult for me to give you advise on which camera do you need. If your techniques and abilities as a photographer are good enough you should do well with any camera and any lens. If you are still learning any of those cameras in my humble opinion is overkill because you will not be in a position to extract all of the goodness they have to offer a photographer.
Case in point, one is a small mirrorless camera and the other is a dSLR. Both should offer very good image quality and selecting one over the other is simply a matter of which camera will better fit your photography style. Try both at a camera store and you will have the answer.

I noticed the irony of you telling the op that he was the one that should show more respect.

"Respect" was probably the wrong word to use. "Consideration" is better.

Would you go to the doctor and simply say to him that you are sick? (Rhetorical question!)

Over and out ... 😐

I don't know. I think the D850 is heavier and makes a better paper weight, but will it fit comfortably in that spot on your desk?

That is what you wanted to know, right? Z7 or D850 which is a better paper weight? I had to guess the use you wanted to put the objects to since you chose to not to disclose it.

And no I did not read the full thread. This type of question does not deserve that much.

For landscape and astro photography: Z7.
For sports, wildlife, and action: D850.

Was all of your sarcasm and condescension really necessary?
Did it make you feel better, smarter, bigger?
Thanks for helping the guy out. After all, that is what this forum is all about, right?

I Have both. Love them both. Nikon just released the new firmware update today which has eye detection af as well as better lowlight focus. I will download today once I get off work. I would say that right now I believe the Z7 to be the way to go. Nikons new 24-70 2.8 for the Z cameras may be the best 24-70 the have ever made. Incredibly sharp and fast.

What are we here for? No question is stupid. Some people want the opinion of other experienced photographers who have used the equipment or studied it. Chill out.

There is good reason to believe that the OP is a troll.

I would try both models out: either rent both or go to a store where you can actually handle them - then decide.

Thank You for the info. I have a D750. I use it mainly for out door/landscapes. Also some portraits. I am used to stander SLR but wanted higher meg/ I didn't know about the hype on the Z7 and don't live where I can put my hands on Z7. Plus new lenses or adapter for the lens I already have.

Regardless of the many opinions that you will receive or find, the choice is ultimately yours. Going for opinions and technical reviews is good but until you have held the cameras and checked them out yourself, you may find yourself occasionally pondering, "What if I had bought the other?" I recommend that you try renting the two, if you can, and take them for a test drive. Then the choice will be more solid. A couple of resources available to you are as follows:

Borrow Lenses
https://www.borrowlenses.com

Lens Rentals
https://www.lensrentals.com

Both of these companies rent camera bodies as well as lenses.
