Can anyone say whether an SD card is a watertight package?

I'm pretty sure that they are not.

That's the point behind my suggestion: trying to wash the card internally to remove saliva (if that's the culprit)

Bad, bad Dog!

I have had a number of SD cards go through the washer, they did not have any problems.

If water (or saliva which is thicker) can find a way inside an SD card, because they are not watertight structures or they are physically damaged, I doubt you are going to flush out saliva and be sure of drying it out completely. That's if you think there are hollow spaces inside an SD card, which I also doubt.

What kind of damage? Something must have broken internally.

My Alaskan Malamute puppy, Albus (a magician..lol), chewed my 64 gig memory card! There is minimal damage on the outside. I am getting a message that the card cannot be accessed both on the camera and the laptop. Any ideas before I send to one of those expensive data recovery places?

There are only a few gigs of photos on there.

If anyone has used a data recovery service, who was most reasonable.

Thanks,

Amy... pissed off doggie mom!

Did you let it dry out before sticking it in anything? A dog's mouth can be quite damp.

?? Sandisk Extreme Pro 128 GB -- so we come up with a new commercial: "Discriminating Dogs Prefer Sandisk Memory Cards"

I think if a card is pretty mangled, the brand doesn't really matter much. With cards going through a washing machine, it might make a difference.

None of the punctures go all the way through.

All of the recovery software I have heard of or used works with corrupted cards, not card with physical damage.

I was changing cards in a reader when it happened. The little shit is fast.

I’m hoping the broken connection can be fixed. I think I am going to just send it out. The nonprofit that I shot for will give me an additional amount for my donation.
