Boutique Air, Carry on luggage and tripod?
We booked a flight which ends with a commuter flight on Boutique Air. This is for a photo tour, so my tripod is essential. We are limited to one standard carryon and a personal item. In the past I have always packed my tripod in my checked bag. Anyone have any experience whether a tripod will clear security? My recollection is they are not as strict as TSA, but I have to clear TSA on my United portion of the trip. Any comments or sharing of your experience will be appreciated.
We have asked a flight attendant, a gate person and the check in person at Delta who have all said no problem carrying a tripod on the plane. I have spiked feet on mine, so I will not try to carry mine on. The people I travel with have not tried yet. Perhaps call United and ask them.

I have always packed my monopod in my checked baggage (United and others).

I packed my travel tripod in my check bag with no problems. Flight was on American. Have also packed a monopod in check bag without any problem.
I think carry on is the question - has anyone carried a tripod on a plane recently?
Or re-reading it, perhaps not the question - I was wrong. But since we are discussing airplanes and tripods, has anyone carried one on the plane recently?
I believe checked luggage will not be a problem at all. I would not hesitate to pack my tripod and check it.

That was not clear to me. I did think it may have been the intended question.

I've never had TSA trouble with any carryon camera gear including tripods. One exception: I had four AA batteries taped together, which they found, inspected and passed it on. I highly recommend enrolling in a Trusted Traveler program,
https://ttp.cbp.dhs.gov like TSA Pre-Check, Global Entry, etc.

According to the TSA website, tripods are allowed for carry on or checked bags.
I have seen people with tripods boarding. A few months ago, I specifically asked a TSA agent about the policy. He said Tripods are ok. But, I have not actually carried one on. That doesn't mean that some over zealous TSA agent won't stop you...I always put it in checked luggage. Seems more convenient, because a large tripod is a pia to have in plane
I haven't done it myself, but I do see people walking through the airport with tripods stuck in their backpacks. I think as long as it fits the measurements, it's not a problem. I was told once that if something is fastened to a backpack it goes as part of that item. If it's hand-carried, it's a separate item.
I always put tripods in my check in luggage.
recently on the way back from northeast to FL where we live now I had problems.
I have a portable scale to weigh my bag. It was not working.
So I was 12 lbs over going on JetBlue. I had stripped as much as I could.
I carry a small bag to unload a few lbs at the checkin that wasn't enough.
Coming back I was with family and used an extra carry on bag. Still got
stopped for my wife suitcase and mine. They charged me for one overweight.
$150 each way. I was 4 lbs over coming back. I charged my client the xtra $300
he was not happy about that.
I was amazed that slipped my manfrotto monied into the sleeve on the Tarmac camera bag
no problem. If security was really security would they let stuff like this go by. Hmmm...
I am going to buy the cheap scale that is a hanger to weigh the bags.
We had a lot of stuff we were away for a month.
Yes, the issue was packing the tripod as a carry on. I have had no problem bringing it in my checked bag in the past. Baggage is very limited on Boutique and I’m trying to meet their specific requirements AND United’s. Don’t want to have to leave it behind somewhere along the way. I will double check with United. Good idea. Thanks!

I have seen that too, strapped to the side of a backpack. Never brave enough to try myself. This may just be the trip to try it! I hope to fit it inside the 22” carryon. I’ll look again at that TSA site. Thanks.
We are currently vacationing in Hawaii. I carried tripod, level head, ball head, camera body and two lenses all in my carry on. The spare lithium batteries were in a checked bag, that’s mandatory but the one in the camera body is allowed in your carry on. No issues with TSA or Hawaiian Airlines. Never had a problem with this procedure in the past or this trip.
