I did download and try the free trial of Affinity Photo. I tried it and then removed it from my computer. It doesn't do an awful lot of what photoshop does.
Glad you like it, but it isn't as good or better than photoshop.

You can edit your photos just fine after you get rid of photoshop. There are countless other raw photo converters and editors and other programs will open and edit both tiffs and jpegs.
So there is absolutely no problem editing photos that you edited in photoshop in other programs. Just don't save them as PSD files and you will be fine.

...yah, in order to give a good assessment, one must be *good* at both softwares, seems to me he needs to work in Photoshop for awhile (like, a few years!) before passing judgement.

Looks like Adobe users are either fan boys or trolls if non users disagree with them. I do photo retouching and can tell you that Photoshop updates have provided significant improvements in content aware, for example

I'm happy with it and $10 a month is about 1/4 of what I spend for a day of golf. I used Autodesk products for years in my business. I believe Civil 3D, the engineering product, was about $7500 to buy plus a $700/year subscription to keep it up to date. Talk about a huge overgrown piece of software. Omigawd. Photoshop is very similar to AutoCAD in that respect. If I could pick up a working copy of AutoCAD with the Civil 3D part for $10 a month I might go back to work doing some mapping on the side. As it is, I'd have to work a whole lot more than I want to just to pay for the tools of the trade if you figure out how much your time is worth then figure in the amount of time it would take to pay for the software.

Just one correction of a misstatement above.
You do not need an active Internet connection to use Photoshop or Lightroom - the software is entirely resident on your computer. If you haven't gone online in a couple of months, you may need to briefly connect to verify that your account and payments are current. If you pay the whole year in advance, I have been told this need goes away as well. You do need to connect to get the latest updates, which seems to download very fast.
I don't use the cloud storage much, so if the price goes up significantly I will reconsider my options. But I have no reason to drop arguably the best post processing software for reasons of either finances or principles. Good stuff, great support, and incredible forums. I realize other have different rationales, so I don't care what they choose.
I do think objection to the principle of subscription software is about as unreasoned as aversion to subscription television or any other service. It makes so much sense for the developers/producers that, except for a few holdouts and shareware/freeware idealists, it's going to be the only way to go by the next generation.
