Look on line for commercial inverter-installers and have them mount one under the dash or the engine hood space permanently with a 110V connector pug for your gear.......relatively simple install but not cheap...shop around. It's a must for anyone who camps or works outdoors and needs to recharge batteries. I had one that I installed myself and have used it for nearly 20 years now on 3 different vehicles.....a good investment.

Canon EOS RP, love it so far, but battery is a bit underpowered. I have two of course, but while traveling/camping it could be an issue. The camera has a type C charging/data port and Canon sells a $200 charger. It is 5v and 5amp. I found a lower cost phone car charger, plugs into cigarette lighter port that takes a type C to type C cable, 3 amp, 5 volt.

Are there any negative consequences to the camera with this setup? My current travel method is plugging an AC inverter into a cigarette lighter port and taking the battery out and using the regular AC wall charger. Alas the inverter vibrates out on rough roads.

Auxiliary battery packs for cell phones and tablets are available everywhere. Find one with a 10,000 Ah rating and use that to charge on the go.

If you use a DC to AC inverter, get one with a pure sine wave output. Square wave inverters are unkind to some combinations of camera battery chargers and batteries.

You can find plenty of third party options for batteries and chargers on Amazon. Some come with dual power options (12V and universal AC voltage (100-240V self-adapting).

Thanks for the replies. My most pressing question is if the idea I'm thinking about trying will harm the camera. It would be cheap and simple, but I hesitate not knowing enough about electronics. I'm thinking the voltage of my proposed charger is the same as Canon's, while the amperage does not exceed the Canon one, so that's my hope, cheap and simple and safe.

You can pad the inverter and that is what will give you the fastest charging. Also the battery is out of the camera. I have charged Hasselblad and Nikon batteries this way for years with the AC chargers plugged into an outlet strip lying on the rear seat.

I just bought this to use for that very purpose on a month long trip to South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana.

On that inverter, did you charge by plugging the wall charger into the 110, or by using the usb cable? I noticed the usb is 2.4 amps but no mention of how many volts.

Plugging the wall charger into the 110 outlets. I don't think I would trust plugging the camera in to this directly.

So I gave it a try with the 5 volt car charger usb c to usb c cable in the camera. The green light came on as supposed to, did not flash green which is supposed to indicate a problem, and didn't trigger the safety override aka it still works. Good so far, but only a few minutes of data.

Is not a USB output 5vdc and 2amps rated.

If your inverter keeps slipping out, take a small screwdriver, insert between the body of the plug and the small metal tabs that hold it in. There should be two of them. Simply pry it out--just a little. It will be tight and should solve your problem. Good luck!

Get an automotive DC jack-to-plug extension
cord to power your inverter so it's not hanging
in the automotive DC socket.

I found a car charger with USB and cig. lighter plugs for my 77D LP17 battery. I used a Vivitar or Kingston charger for my larger Canon Battery like those used in Canon FF bodies. 3rd party chargers are OK, since they don't touch the camera. I'll never use a 3rd party battery.

Sorry, no answer for USB charging of the battery in the charger. But if you inverter bounces around, it isn't secured, please make sure you secure the camera while charging and driving.

3rd party chargers MAY be OK, but that depends entirely on the complexity of the battery. Agree on the use of 3rd party batteries. Best of luck.

You have an inverter with no cord. They make them with cords, thus just the plug weight is in the lighter hole. Harbor freight has them.

You can get an inverter for $30 to $50 that will power your normal charger. It plugs into the accessory outlet (used to be called the cigar lighter). The only drawback is that the key has to be on to power the accessory outlet. Fine for when you're driving, but it doesn't charge while you're parked with the key out.

As far as charging things with the camera attached, get a large plastic box and put everything in that, maybe with a towel to cushion things. That way things won't bounce around as much.

I have two outlets one only works with the key on the other works as long as something is plugged in. Last car was like that too.

I use a car charger that cradles 2 batteries at a time. Can be had for under 20 bucks and plug into a standard 12 volt outlet. No inverter needed.

Velcro strips would also work provided the inverter is not too heavy.
