Hi Scuba Stephen, I have camera envy, you've got a wonderful camera and should have fun with it. I'm not a manual reader and I have one of David Busch's books covering the D7000, I probably wont buy another, it's essentially a better written owners manual. That's not a bad thing but I don't use it so much.

I would suggest a different book - Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. It's camera neutral, focusing on how to use the exposure controls of any camera to achieve what you want to capture. It's up to you to reference the manual (or Busch's book) when you need to adjust settings you find in the book.

Amazon's Kindle Store has several good e-books on the D750. Check them out. Look for videos on YouTube, as well. Try one thing at a time. Get Back Button Focusing down. Then try some Aperture Priority shooting. Then try something else. Get one thing down pat before moving on to something else.

But I wonder why did you buy a dying technology?

Will you ever buy another fossil fuel powered vehicle? LoL

Camera manuals are more like encyclopedias. They have things organized oddly, but the Index lets you look up specific things easily enough. Many camera books may have indexes, or not, but are more of a diary like thing...."this is how I used this camera to do time lapse", or "this camera made my career, because...", etc. The manuals are technical. The books are often biographical. Both can be useful. Some readers do better with one type of text than with the other.

Of course. That is not a dying technology. LoL.

But that has nothing to do with cameras.

"just need to get out there and shoot and not be so intimidated."
You have your answer. Also, give YouTube a try.

Forget the books! They are fine as a reference, not as a total learning tool. Get Nikon D750 Fast Start by John Greengo from Creative Live - https://www.creativelive.com/class/fast-start-nikon-d750-john-greengo
This is a video course, selling for $26. You can stream the videos or download them for future reference.

I have used John Greengo videos for several new cameras. You will be up and running in a couple of days.
You can then use the books to fill in the gaps, although I have not found this necessary.

If you purchase this and are not satisfied, I will personally refund your $26. I have no connection with Creative Live. I just like their products.

Well, as you read the comments from the kids arguing about manuals and things you never asked, you have discovered the worst thing about this site. A lot of times when someone is looking for some info or help or encouragement you will notice that people offer everything except what you are looking for and argue about their own opinions. If You think a manual on the D750 would be beneficial to You, by all means get one. Just don't get discouraged by comments or all that You don't understand right now. I have a D750, and I can assure You that You have bought a great camera and the more You use it the more You will enjoy it as You learn more. Enjoy Your new camera, You made a good choice.

There are MANY, MANY tutorials on Utube. Just google "operating the Nikon D750" and you will get more than enough advice. Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

Wonderful camera. I got mine 2 years ago and mainly use it with a 24-70 f2.8. Low light is incredible. I found the various options a bit overwhelming at first, but worked through the manual which I downloaded. I belong to Nikonians and they have book called “Mastering the Nikon D750” by Darell Young, through RookyNook, which will tell you all you need to know. There’s a lot of advice on the internet obviously. You’ve got a great camera, go with it, you’ll get there eventually!!

I bought a new D750 just a couple of months ago. I had a D90 and now have a D7000 and D500 so I was already familiar with Nikon DSLR cameras. I would say just work through the owner's manual. A good thing to do is to download the manual to your computer from Nikon's download center. It's much better to read the manual on your computer's screen than the little booklet that comes with the camera.

Here is a good tip if you don't shoot video. The movie record button can be re-programmed. I re-programmed mine for ISO. It's much more convenient to have ISO there than on the back of the camera.

Also, be sure to program the Fn button. Many useful functions can be programmed to that button.

Note that when you switch the camera over to shoot video, the movie record button will function to start stop video as intended and not change iso.

Here is a link reviewing the D750. There are many others as well on YouTube. Very nice camera. Congratulations:

Get a copy of David Bush's guide to the 750. His instruction books have sold over 2 million copies. He makes learning a new camera much easier with the full color screen shots he provides!

I have both David Bush's and Darrell Young's books for the D750 and I found the Darrell Young book much easier to read, follow and understand. But that's just me.

I started out with Rob Sylvan's book Nikon D750 From Snapshots to Great shots. Far more condensed than some of the others.
