We're about 7-10 days away from getting our first shipment of framed prints for the upcoming Exhibition via Johns Hopkins University. I'm not too worried about 4 of the 5 images. The Foggy Morning image does have me concerned as I've wanted this print larger than normal. Except it's a copy of a copy of an original and there will be a slight grain to this larger format. I'm hoping AaronBrothers will take this into consideration and make any necessary adjustments.

Update:

With 5 prints on their way to us tomorrow, we just read the fine print for the exhibition in late April. According to the registration fine print.. we'll be dissatisfied because of the number of entires we wanted to place in the show. Thus I'll not be participating in the show this year. We've spent 300.00+ dollars on 5 prints and now feel if we had read the fine print first we would not have sent those selected images out to have custom framed. It pays to read the fine print, before you comment to something.

However, one bright spot. I've been asked to attend a Rhododendron festival/art show this spring. I may or may not showcase my work there. But we'll see. As always.. these images can be seen on my photoblog: Bokehen.wordpress.com

Update:

The 5 frame prints arrives several hours ago from Aaron Brothers / Michaels out of Fort worth Texas. There's good and bad with this order. First the images are spot on even after I used the online scaling system on a small computer monitor. The frames are very well made and cut cleanly.

The bad.. the paper backing is very lose and shutter when you shake the frame there's nothing between the paper and the print from the inside. The canvas prints are just as bad.. there's way more excess canvas material lose on the back of these frames.

Overall, I've say if you have an odd ball sized photo and want to have it printed Aaron brothers will do this for you but may cost a bit more than one would expect. Yet if you want those prints framed.. best find another frame shop.

As for the exhibit, After unpacking these prints, they are larger than I had expected and the wife wants me to submit at least 3 of the 5 prints, even if they don't sell. But I'll clue you in. I'm going to ask an outrageous amount for these prints simply because I'll then hand over 90% of what the print was sold for to the children center.

Update:

At 9 am this morning we returned 4 out of the 5 prints to Michaels for a full refund as we had a chance to view these prints and the lack of craftsmanship with the frames, mats and backing. Everything was completely wrong. However, the Lonely Teddy Bear Bookend print turned out expectedly well and while at Michaels their framing staff to care in repairing those areas of the teddy bear print and even put the correct backing with a mildew resistant foam board.
I learn 2 things while doing this.

1st: never submit your prints or files of your prints to online framing retailers for framing there after. Always get your photographs printed in house of at Kinkos etc. Every one of the prints was pixilated (all except the teddy bear) In other words, if you can watch the process with the printing, you wont know what you're getting or the outcome.

2nd: never send your prints out to be framed. always have an in house service or someone like Michaels framers to walk you through what's the best frame for your prints.

Because Michaels store manager got involved in the return and repair of our prints.. they've talked me back into having my Teddy Bear print exhibited at the upcoming Johns Hopkins show. However, I'll not offer this print for sale thereafter. But If someone came along and offered to buy this print from us, they best be prepared to shell over a big lump sum as we've had to endure more than our share of time and effort to get this teddy bear even printed.

So for the time being, only the teddy bear bookend will be on display at the Johns Hopkins art/photography exhibit the end of April.

Sadly the Foggy Morning on the Blue Ridge Parkway image is a copy of a copy of a lost original and is very low resolution. The largest size without distorting the image is 8x10 otherwise the image gets all pixilated. Sites like Gurushots, 500px have all cast high votes on the foggy morning picture yet it's one of those once in a life time images I'll prob never be able to capture again.

A once in a lifetime Photobook made just for my wife.

Although this photo is a bit dark, it should reveal a small 8x8 black photobook made just for my wife and for no particular reason. I did it just so she could have her favorite pictures on hand at any time.

With the help of shutterfly, this 8x8 hard bound book is an ideal sized book for several of my less than perfect images which the wife likes even though they are blurry or pixulated. Purely on a whim, I created this book 2 weeks ago using the shutterfly online services. The book just arrived 20 mins ago and I'm very impressed with the quality and very fast turnaround time.

So here's your chance to own a copy of this book for $30.00 plus shipping. 20 of our favorite photographs from the Foggy Morning to the Lonely Tear Bear bookend which will offical be on display late April and the Kossiakoff Center to benefit the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center

Update:

The date has arrived and my Lonely Teddy Bear Bookend is on display at Johns Hopkins (APL) Kossiakoff Center. Arrived early to watch fellow artist and photographs hand over their works for display at the Kossiakoff Center. This is an exciting moment while watching the staff any artiest hover around my photo. This photo will be on display from April 26th - May 30th.

If you get a chance and you're in that area, make a point to visit this exhibit to help support the Johns Hopkins Children's Center by making a donation or buys several prints on display. The asking price for my Lonely Teddy Bear Bookend has been set at $3,000 with 90% of that going to the Johns Hopkins Children's Center and is clearly marked on a display card at the exhibit. So not only will you get my print, You'll be helping support a worthy cause.

In a few weeks, I'll return to the Kossiakoff Center, mingle with fellow artist during the wine and cheese tasting event and take a few photos of the exhibit.
