A quick composite from a couple of steampunk shoots. Thought the boilers and the lady's bag went together rather well. I used a topaz texture filter on this but must get away from being so lazy and sort my own textures. Does anyone here make there own? If so, do you simply take a shot of something you see, or do you create the texture? Interested in how people go about it. So far I've only snapped walls, concrete, sand etc., but I'd like to actually set about creating something. All response, critique and comments much appreciated. Please download to see it my way (unless Linda sorts the colour for me!!).

Very interesting photograph, topic, colors. Thanks.
Love it! Especially the face in the boiler (?) on the right.
I have shot a few elements I thought might work as textures, plus it's easy to manipulate ones you buy or are given or find free online (blur, colors, blend mode, opacity, add grain etc). I made one that is posted
here. It is comprised of two or three of my own pics + the cracks you can see came from another photo someone shared with me.
Dave, I bet you would enjoy starting from a blank canvas. In
this piece a lot of the blues and greens are from experiments with patterns made from my own brushes and photos. Endless possibilities!

I remember the moon reflection Linda - very effective. Hadn’t thought of starting with brushes, I was thinking I’d need to pp something I’d shot. Brushes would open up the possibilities quite a bit and I’m sort of used to them. I’ve also thought about creating something on a sheet of glass - in fact I made a start but broke the glass!
Thanks for the tips and for sorting the colour - posted the same file on Facebook without any change, so I’m blaming UHH!

Too funny!

It may only be the sites that use a thumbnail preview, as of course, the downloaded version on UHH is correct. But articles usually mention "web browser" as culprit, as well as "mixing" profiles:

Many years ago I use procedural texture generators for my 3D graphics.
Filter Forge comes to mind.
I’ve taken to saving my pics straight from Photoshop, as an 8bit sRGB jpeg, rather than exporting it from Lightroom, so they should be OK.

I’ll look it up Richard, many thanks.

My composites aim for reality so I don't use textures but I did look into my "Peripheral Folder" to see what I might use. The closest I come to Textures are my "Rocks" files. I take shots of decorative rocks, like a rock garden, also closeups of large boulders. If I needed some texture, I think I could find what I need there. You have some fantastic composites on your site! I recall a couple of them on UHH, but if you have time, please post a few favorites to PP Forum and give us the details on how you created them. Many thanks!
Linda,
Actually I didn't write "Does anyone here make their own? If so, do you simply take a shot of something you see, or do you create the texture? Interested in how people go about it..." I copied and pasted it from the OP. I then went on to respond.
I did look at your examples and agree that they could make a background more interesting when applied.

Thanks, Howard. I finally figured it out as you were typing your reply to me, so I've changed my comments
I also added the "quote reply" formatting in your reply to magnetoman for clarity.
