Never made it to the Everglades but would recommend Ocean Drive in South Beach, especially around sunset & evening and for street photography. Here is a summary...
"South Beach is known for its beaches and the glamorous scene around its happening nightspots and celebrity-chef eateries. On Ocean Drive, known for its well-preserved art deco architecture, outdoor cafes offer a ringside view of the scene."

I was in South Miami Beach also. One definitely has to see the Art Deco architecture both in the day and after dark. I remember at night how some guys would cruise with their custom cars outfitted with ground effect lighting. It makes for great street photography.

Dalek is right on the money. Get to Shark Valley as it opens and be ready to do a lot of shooting. Keep heading west to the Big Cypress Gallery. If you call ahead you make a reservation to take a "Swamp Tour," which I highly recommend, especially at sunrise. Maybe not so many photos, although you will be shooting some, but an unforgettable experience! I agree with Dalek's other choices, too.

Wynwood is a must see to photograph graffiti and for street photography. Calle 8 another must, busier during weekends. Coral Gables has many old colonial buildings that could be of interest. Fairchild garden another favorite spot but mosquitoes and unpleasant heat and humidity could cut your visit short. Same thing with the Everglades beginning now.
South Beach I agree with others is most photogenic in the evening and at night. Beautiful sunset at Key Biscayne and there is a historic lighthouse and a beautiful beach there at its tip. The Coral Castle Museum in Homestead could be of interest.
I bet I have told you enough already to spend a week and you will not be able to cover all subjects.

I lived in Miami many years ago. I remember Parrot Jungle, Viscaya, the Miami Seaquarium. Others have good suggestions too. When I lived in Miami, South Beach was full of old folks on rocking chairs.
