My recent Nikons all have USB 3 connectors.

And what the hell's a card reader?
You can get them on eBay for $1. Work as well as any.
Same for micro USB cables.

The micro plugs (fitting camera) are not standard.
If it is a STANDARD USB plug, it is STANDARD. If it isn't, it isn't. Nikon's camera connectors, for example, have NOT been USB connectors. The other end is a USB-A to plug into a computer. Nikon calls them USB cables, but only one end is USB. Other camera makers have unfortunately felt the need to create their own proprietary camera connections and cables.
Canon, on the other hand, has not used proprietary connectors for the computer cable. Canon cables are STANDARD USB-A - to USB Mini-B.
I have in front of me two Olympus 4/3 DSLR's (not micro-4/3), an E-1 and and E-500.. One has a standard USB-Mini B connector, the other has an Olympus proprietary connector. Dumb.
There are different USB connectors that are small enough to be put on cameras....Mini-B, Micro-B, and now USB-C. Great. Let no manufacturer create any new proprietary, non-standard cables for connecting to computers. If Nikon is now putting USB-C on their cameras, fantastic. If everyone changes to USB-C, even more fantastic. Then a cable will work on any camera (or cell phone or tablet or whatever) regardless of what brand it is.

Good to see we are in agreement.
