If you think gas is expensive here just wait till you go to Europe.

It seems that since the Exxon Valdez fiasco a number of years ago, the price of gas jumps every time an oil tanker comes within 5 miles of a reef, or an oil company's CFO wife needs new fashions to wear. Any excuse will do to raise gas prices but nothing lowers gas prices.

That's one advantage of being in Texas, where oil tankers off-load not far from the refineries. BTW....no new refineries have been built in decades.

Presently $6.42/gal CDN in metro Vancouver, Canada and forecast to hit $7.56/gal CDN by July 1, 2019 and add an additional $.25/gal if your car requires 94 octane! Those prices are for a US standard gallon, add $1.20/gal for pricing in CDN Imperial gallons.
Seriously considering an electric car for urban driving and using my gas guzzler for road trips outside urban areas, as our provincial government is in the first stage of legislating the fossil fuel passenger vehicle out of existence with a target date of 2040 when all passenger vehicles must be zero emission.

Y'all need to come North to Canada. With your strong American $ (1USD = 1.34CD) you can purchase 1 American gallon of petrol (3.78 litres) for a measly $3.40 in your dollar. Seems a lot doesn't it. But just remember that us Canucks are paying in our own currency $4.54 for the same amount of gas. And if you express the cost in our own imperial gallon (4.54 litres) that cost would be $5.53. Now you can see why the oil companies just love the metric system ($1.20 litre versus $5.53 gal)
So, come on up to fill yer tanks, we can use all the $'s you have.(cuts down on our taxes paid 😬)

Williamsport is 2.85 a gallon and I am sure other places are much cheaper.

Ron, I don’t know where you are located in Canada, but the pricing you quote in your post have not been available here in British Columbia for at least the last 6 months! Are you located in Alberta? I know gas is cheap in Alberta compared to the rest of Canada.

Back in the early '70s, with my old Z28 with an LS6 engine, gas was 28 or 38 cents a gallon... no longer recall, and the 8 could have been 7.9... used to get 8mpg (in City) and 12mpg on the highway... car was really fast... used to 'vet hunt... just to 'blow the doors off 'em'.

More accurate than you know. There has been an effective ban on creating new refinery facilities since the 70's. The first portion was legislative, and then it became local veto. The following article tells the tale as of 2005. Note that the NYT would likely ignore facts shown if the article were revisited today and blame oil company greed.....

If y'all remember not too long ago, gas was $4.00+ per gallon. These images were accumulated at that time. History has a tendency to repeat itself...so perhaps we shall see that magic number again.

This is why I’ve driven a Prius since 2008. In fact, so do my wife, twins, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law... They’re the least expensive cars to own that we’ve owned and operated.

Catch Sir David Attenborough's new BBC documentary "Climate Change - The Facts", shown on BBC One, and you may have a different perspective on fossil fuels.

When I saw the tax break oil companies receive I bought a Tesla S75. ...now I’m laughing my ass off thinking about all the people lining the pockets of the share holders and owners of the oil companies....gotta love it.....thank you Elon

I would like to get a Prius. How much would it cost to have a wheelchair lift installed in one?

Yeah, um no. Second hand hay.
I live in Socal. On my roof I can see the flare stacks from 4 refineries.
I went to Phoenix recently. California gas gets trucked there, and is @ $1 cheaper.
I went to Lake Havasu. Drove. Every so often the route crossed state lines. Boom! $.75 cheaper.
We have "cells". A group of stations will have very similar prices. Same brands, 2 miles farther from the freeway- a quarter cheaper. Parts of Orange County you need to get off the freeway, drive a bit and get back on another. In between are "super stations"- @ $.50 cheaper.
We were actually warned by some newsies of this in the LAX area. Groups of managers are bumping up prices to get us ready for holiday fuel prices. Maybe some respite in between holidays, but we're kinda screwed until after 7/4/19.
Ya gotta look around- brand "loyalty" is meaningless. Keep track of prices, and reward the better ones.
My wife tells me that at this point, some differences are insignificant. 20 cents difference? That;s what- 2 dollars on a $40 fillup? Still, it's the principle...
