Need a CPL filter

I am laying out the itinerary for a trip through Hoover Dam, Death Valley and north central California in early May. I think that a CPL would greatly benefit my pictures. I have some inexpensive filters that seem to not add much benefit to the photo quality. Therefore I am looking at B+W filters as I see them highly recommended here on UHH.

It is an excellent CPL, and that seems like a good price (although I haven’t checked prices since I bought mine years ago).

Take a look at Breakthrough Photography X4 CPL. They are more expensive than the B+W but I think they are worth it. The BP has a knurled ring which makes it easier to rotate the CPL with the lens hood on. I find it difficult to rotate the B+W without getting finger smudges on the glass.

In brief, Hoya, B+W, and Marumi are top ranked and you won't go wrong with any of these. Based on some bad experience I've had with cheap CPLs in the past I would suggest going with the top of the line in whatever brand you choose although others may disagree with that. Your photos will indeed benefit from a properly used, quality CPL.

Looks like a deal to me. But I would go with the 77mm as that is the largest diameter filter I would need. OHHHH, they have the 77mm on sale also, OH BOY, another filter, just what I need. Another filter, OH BOY. I am going to order today.

With the price they are offering it really makes you wonder about the mark up on filters in general.

From my perspective polarizing filters are not worth it. Although they sometimes improve skies they also tend to dull down natural reflections from leaves, rocks, etc and just take to life out of some scenes, not to mention losing 1.5-2 stops exposure. I believe better results are rendered in post processing with an "original" file.
