Well, gen, the Yashica was introduced in 1987 by Kyocera using the Yashica name. It is a model 230 AF. IT wasn't a big success from what I have read. If your friend thinks he brought it back from Viet Nam all I can say is that there was a lot of "organic stimulation" going on over there and it wasn't kind to the memories of many people!
I had a Yashica TL Super with two lenses that I bought in 'Nam. I ended up giving them to a collector.

It's kind of difficult to bring a camera introduced in the late 80's back from Vietnam because travelling to Vietnam at that time is near impossible.

Holy Moley, Marty! We've got to go back to the future!

All we need is a DeLorean or a TARDIS.

They have little/ no $$ value.

There are over 100 Spotmatic cameras for sale on eBay right now. That alone will hold down the price, but a Spotmatic that still works is still a fine camera. Spotmatic lenses are still usable on modern Pentax cameras - in fact, I have several myself.

He needs to check the battery compartment and the light seals if he intends to use those cameras, I have maybe 40 Spotmatic bodies that I have accumulated while collecting Takumar lenses and every one of them would need the light seals replaced for use.

You've used every one?

My Pentax Super Program, which is newer - I purchased it in 1983 - is still usable; I've never bothered to inspect the seals.

No, haven't used any of the bodies, only the lenses, if the bodies were in good shape I just threw them in a box or a drawer, still have them because I don't want to just throw them away, but don't shoot film, maybe someday.

I used to have a bunch of older film cameras, film is history now ah days and never used them anymore.
We moved to a new house with no room to display them so I gave them to a person who teaches photography at a local school. { he teaches film processing.}
I probably could have sold them but didn't. I kept a couple, an Exakta and a couple of Zeiss 35 mm as shelf queens. And of course a couple P.Angenieux lens which I have an adapter to use them on my digital cameras.

I don't understand how you can announce they have light leaks if you haven't run film through them.

I have Russian Zenit 35 mm camera which I bought in the USSR in 1978. It is a great camera and I always enjoyed it but it has very little value for other people.

All you have to do is look at the seals that line the doors, it is pretty evident that time destroys them. There is a gasket type liner that follows lines the entire enclosure and the where the mirror flips up to seal the body from light during exposure, you should inspect the condition of those areas.

For what it's worth, Film photography, like vinyl records, has been enjoying a bit of a renaissance. Mostly with compact RF's and all mechanical SLR's. Nikon L35's have been bumping a C note for over a year now. Olympus RC35's are running as high as 65 and 75 dollars @. Film is far from dead. Why do you think Fuji's 4 pack boxes of Superia that were $11.-$14. a year ago are now $20. for a 3 pack of the same. Do they see a connection between supply and demand? 1/2 of my students want to shoot film and do darkroom.
I recently contracted with a bridge construction company to do their photo archives and personnel photos. They stipulated digital for the archival photos and videos, But, film for the prints of their working personnel. HMmmm.
Although about 80% of my work is digital, (D7100, D3100 for backpacking, AW100 for crummy weather conditions. The other 20% is done with Nikon F2, FM,FE, Nikkormat EL, or Nikkormat FTn and a Canon FTb. I'm not a collector but I have had these cameras for years and used them for journalism, bird, macro, and comet photography. Glad I kept them! A peer of mine once stated," It's a little like driving a 1967 Dodge Charger". "Had one of them too".

For you supply and demand statement I would say it's the supply that has been reduced not the demand increase. In fact if the demand increased you would rather see a price reduction instead of increase.
