I was hoping someone might provide a recommendation. My Epson R3000 broke and unfortunately it will cost more to repair than replace. A memorial service will be held, as I loved that printer. The gentleman at the repair service-while breaking the cost of repair to me-recommended an Epson P600 as a potential replacement. Any thoughts, comments observations on this model? Any thoughts on additional printers would be appreciated. I do print larger format to 8 x 10, 5 x 7. Thank you.

I have used a Epson P600 for 5 years and love it. Wouldn't buy any other printer.

I’ve had an Epson P800 for 2 years. It’s idle for a month or more sometimes and the next when I print I have never had a bad print.

Suggest you read the one and two-star reviews for this printer. There aren’t a huge number of them, but they are significant re clogged heads, bad design, trouble downloading drivers, short-lived (20 sheets in one example) expensive ink cartridges, etc.

I was surprised to see that the P600 was getting bad reviews so I checked this out. First there is whole lot more 1 and 2 star reviews. The 1 start reviews seem to be, for a large part, from users who want to print using the matte black ink setting. So, if you are wanting that capability look elsewhere. The rest of the 1 star complaints were things like the ink costs too much or the printer didn't work after sitting for 2-3 months. One complaint was that it only printed well on Epson paper because it only came with Epson profiles. (the user should read the manual)
I have an Epson R3000 also and at the risk of jinxing myself, have had zero problems. (I do print at least one 'PM' 5x7 a week) As the P600 is in reality an upgraded R3000 and since there are so many positive reviews, were I in need of another printer I wouldn't hesitate to pick up the P600. Keep in mind that these are not intended for production printing, take care of them and don't cheap out and buy after market inks (they are a false economy) and you should be fine.

Since I do not print on a daily basis, not even a weekly basis I have been most frustrated with clogging of the injectors. At times it is a waste of ink and paper and both are expensive.
I have found out that a Costco print is all I need....when I need one.

I have a HP 8610 pro Printer that has been working very well for me for 2 years now, although I do not do a abundance of printing or copy work, so my ink last a long time.

My issue with printers is the tiny cartridges that always run out individually. I had a HP where I tried to guess what ran out first - but ended up with 4 extra of one color - and zero of another so the printer wouldn't run when I needed it.
I finally bought an Epson Eco-Tank ET-3600 - mainly for office use. (Black + 3 colors.) The good news is that I now never run out of ink. (You get bottles that let you refill the ink reservoir.) The bad news is that the photo printing quality is not great - and it maxes out at 8.5 x 11. I wish they had a photo quality printer where you could add your own ink.
So I use Costco for some prints, and Whitehouse Custom Colour (via mail) for prints that I show or give to people.

If so.... look no further than the Canon PIXMA PRO-100.
Nothing else comes close to it.

I just got a PIXMA PRO-100 yesterday; B&H had a deal I couldn't refuse. The only comment I have so far is that Canon assumes that you have a CDROM drive on your computer for the installation of the software. Unfortunately the iMac computers sold for the past three or four years do not have a CDROM drive. I talked to a technician at Canon this morning and he got everything set up on my computer, but he was not able to complete the installation until I get a longer USB cable since they only provide a three-foot cable with the printer. Once I have the longer cable, he said I should call back and they will complete the installation for me. Once I get it up and running (hopefully this afternoon) I will give you a report.

A great advantage of Canon printers is that they have U.S. based (Virginia) free technical support. I have always found their people to be polite and helpful and they answer the phone in a reasonable time.

I have the Edson SureColor P600; great printer!

I don't do a lot of prints and often the printer sits idle for a month or so. No problems with clogged print heads but I do run a cleaning cycle after long 'holidays'.

I use HP printers exclusively. Had an issue with a Cannon. The one thing I look for is one that the print cartridge and the print head are one unit. With many of the newer printer the ink cartridge is separate from the print. If the print head goes bad on this type of printer bad news new printer needed. Just my opinion.

Totally agree! I’ve had an HP Photosmart All-In-One 7520 inkjet printer for the past 8 years now. Only had to replace the print head once. It cost me $30 on eBay. Use it constantly and it produces beautiful prints.

The OP stated he only prints to size 8 X 10. He doesn’t need a 13 X 19 printer.

I've been using a Canon IX6820 for 3 years and Jarbo replacement ink cartridges for 2 years with no problems, saved a lot of money using that ink

I have used it for 4 years or so. I don’e use it regularly- less than once a month. I’ve never had a clogged head. It runs its head cleaning process and all is good. Image quality is excellent as well.

I use the Canon PIXMA Pro 10. Never had a problem. I also have a smaller all in one canon printer that produces good photos and has never failed. Both are wireless.
