I was up at the local college shooting for fun/practice and managed to get a nearly perfect shot and some great ones to go with it....

Good timing getting the ball in frame. Too bad no faces show. You might try moving closer to first or third base for at the plate shots.

These are great action shots--no faces necessary for me.

I moved to both sides of the plate during this double header and chose to only post these from the 2K+ photos of both teams. I assure you that I can produce them but appreciate the CC...

Nice shots! I like the angle that you shot them at!

Cool set. The first one has an odd (shutter) effect of an apparent bent bat! Or was it due to an extreme WA lens?

Not exactly sure what that's about??? I was kinda hoping that someone might have some insight. I think that the bat might be damaged but I'm open to other opinions.

Were these a pick of many single shots, or did you take advantage of 4K photo capture?

You can see that same effect, albeit very slight, in shots 2 and 4. Must be the shutter effect.

Well I just looked it up and it is bent due to the bat being a Composite BBCOR Bat vs an Aluminum Bat. It seems that the handle actually is designed to bend in Composite bats due to safety considerations.

I don't use the video features in my Nikon and kinda wish that they would focus on making the camera better because you can't serve two masters well. I think that cell phones shouldn't do anything but make calls that don't drop and that you could understand the other person too but that's just my two cents...

Interesting--didn’t know that about composite bats. Does the springiness give hitters using them an advantage?
Second question? what is the sound when the bat strikes the ball? I have never gotten used to the “plink” of an aluminum bat.

I’m thinking the same thing: the “whip” action would increase the speed of the ball coming off the bat which is a problem with aluminum bats.

As for the “plink” , me too. I miss the sound of the “crack”☹️

It could be the effect of "rolling shutter". I took pictures from the China bullet train at 200 mph and the telephone poles were all curved almost to the ground. Same effect here. The bat is recorded at different spots on the sensor as it moves. You can see the effect on airplane propellers too.
