For me this is outstanding use of long exposure. Most of the time it is used to show still water. This time it is used to show the flow of water and Wow did it do that. Composition at its best. One of your best shots for me with a story that everyone will immediately pick up on. Congratulations on a fine job well done.👍

A topic with which I'm somewhat familiar. Mechanical engineering background. You captured this one quite nicely.

Thank you. I do appreciate that. I was thinking lately, while looking at my beach and jetty shots, that I could use the long exposure technique other places and get other effects. Moving water is one obvious solution; but clouds are another idea I've had and want to work at. Of course, the clouds around here lately have not been cooperating. They need to be moving but not completely overcast. I'll work on it. Thanks.

Very nice capture Erich of fluid dynamics in action. The download
shows a 'Eddy' has been created in the lower right of this image.

What is interesting to me is the changes I've noticed in this stretch of the river over the past few weeks. We had a lot of rain a while back and the foam was being washed right past the little "bay" because of the faster moving water. As the level went down and the flow decreased, the eddies began to form again. Quite fascinating.

Erich,

I agree with other comments here, this is an outstanding image. There was a little bit of this in your previous image with the water streamlines coming around the bend. This is similar, just amped up. I love it.

Mike

PS: as an engineer I know something about the topic and the title is very appropriate.

I'm happy to hear from an engineer that I got the title right. I'm also pleased that you enjoyed the photo. The intriguing aspect of long exposure photos is that you don't know what you are going to end up with. This scene shot at 1/125 sec, for example, would have been pretty ho-hum. The lines that formed by having the shutter open for a rather long time, are what give the composition impact. You have to be able to visualize what is happening and that puts a good deal of mystery into the process. Thank you for your comments.

Interesting, Erich. Now maybe you can understand my interest in shooting out the side window of a moving vehicle. Or even out the windshield on a bumpy road.
