I watched a video on youtube about back button focusing, I have not tried it yet but it looks very promising, have any hoggers tried it and if so what are the results.
Just do it...
You won't regret it...

Best way to improve focus by disconnecting from the shutter release. My yield increased significantly since I use this technique learned from the pros.
It can help prevent accidental exposures when using the shutter button (first pressure too much pressure) to get auto-focus.
Set auto focus to continuous and forget it. Press the BB Han hold = continuous. Press and release = single. BBF is how all cameras should be set at the factory.

Try it and you'll never go back.

I use it and love it. Don't know which video you saw, but one you should watch is Steve Perry's on backcountrygallery.com

I agree. His books are also full of great information.

BBF is a personal choice, and really depends on your type of photography. Like many topics in UHH, it elicits strong reactions from its adherents and detractors. Many, like me, use it exclusively as it disconnects the focusing and shutter release to two separate buttons.
The reference to Steve Perry’s articles and video on this subject are great references. In addition, as this topic comes up every few months, I suggest a UHH search for related threads.
Best advice. Try it, giving yourself long enough to get used to it. If you like it, keep it.
Definitely watch Steve Perry. I’m not good at anything. I was told there would be a big adjustment but to keep at it and I would be glad I did. So I switched my camera to BBF. From the very first click I was hooked. And I’ve never switched back. It was simple and productive for me.
I recently started using BBF after hearing about it so often here. I now prefer it - it seems to give me more precise ficus and less camera movement while I'm trying to focus.
I got addicted to BBF after watching Steve Perry's video. I have it set up on 2 bodies. I love it. It separates the focus and compose elements of a shot. As everyone else has stated. Try it!
I set it up years ago and never went back.
I LOVE having exposure and focus separate!!!
Many thanks for all replies, I will try it on my next excursion.
