Sony is killing the competition when it comes to crop sensor mirrorless cameras in the a6000 series category. The a6000 was the first of the series. Then came the a6300 and the a6500 cameras. Then, Sony came out with the a6400, when I thought the a6700 would be next one. The a6500 is an excellent camera. A friend who owns a a6000, is wishing to own a a6500. My friend took his a6000 to a vacation to the UK, about 2 years ago, and took only two kit zoom lenses with him. He took some great photos with it. Would he consider the a6400 over the a6500 today? I don't know. Haven't seen him in awhile. The price difference, would perhaps be a factor in his decision today.

Agreed. I think that at first the Sony menu system is a bit daunting, but no more so than any other camera's menu system. Once you figure it out, which doesn't take long to see that it makes sense. I've had the A6000 and currently the A6300, and have no issues with the menus. No problem with the placement of the controls, either, although I'd prefer to have a rear control wheel rather than the ring on the back.

I will try to clear up a couple of misunderstandings so far in this thread.
In the Sony line of cameras, the a6400 did not replace any other camera. The a6400 is a crop sensor version of the Sony a9. The a6400, a9, a7iii, and a7Riii all have the 2nd generation Bionx processor allowing for what Sony has recently released in firmware updates.
About Capture One for Sony. There are two versions -- C1 Express for Sony and C1 for Sony. Express does not have all the bells and whistles that Pro does. Express is free. C1 Pro is the all the features of C1, and you pay for this. These versions are for Sony cameras only. There is C1 Pro for all cameras for more money.
Two differences between the a6400 and the a6500 are the Bionx processor and image stability. a6400 with the 2nd generation and the a6500 with the first generation Bionx processors. a6400 does not have in body image stabilization and the a6500 does.

You have created more confusion rather than clarification.
The A6400 is definitely not a crop sensor A9. That may be coming with the replacement for the A6500. The A6400 IS a replacement for the A6300.

I can't speak for the 6400 but I have an a6500 and love it. Focus is faster than my a7ii.

My 6400 focuses better than my A7R3 even with the 3.0 firmware.

That’s sayin something. I’ve never seen anything focus as fast as the A7r iii with thr fe 24-105mm.

I use this lens as well but mostly for people. No doubt both camera are as fast as any...its the tracking makes the 6400 better.

I hope you are correct, but doubt it. All indications are that the 6400 is doing well so why compete with it at this time. I think the mini A9 will be released next year depending on what the competition does.
Suspect it will be the A7S3 in time for Xmas, its over due.

Thanks for the review. Considering adding a a6500 for street shooting the stabilization is a must for me.
