Is it possible that there is a reliable camera store near you? Go there and talk to them. If it’s not possible to get to the camera store contact BxH Explain what you need and they will put you in contact with a very nice person that will be very helpful

This morning I got a message that said I should consider a Canon Rebel SL1, because it is a better camera then a T3i. I checked it out (on Amazon) and used ..came in white..and was a little smaller...and cheaper. Someone else also messaged me and said I should use a cellphone camera instead of going through all this trouble...soooo now I'm getting confused.

The SL1 is also good. The problem with cell phone cameras is the distortion of the relatively wide angle lenses. They are OK for getting rid of stuff on ebay or Poshmark, but if this is your own work, getting a bit of distance using 18-55 lens is going to give you better results.

If you listen to everyone or find yourself always considering the last message to be the more relevant, you'll have a difficult time ... Everyone loves to spend other people's money. Keep that in mind.

Your first thoughts were a good position, that was, buying used of a relevantly recent model. Additional useful ideas: set a budget that includes / addresses the total spend the whole purpose of the idea, including both the camera body and the lens(es) for the camera's intended purpose. You said macro jewelry photography. You might need to consider a tripod as well. If just doing small stuff on table tops, a smaller tripod is all that's needed and will be easier to use for static shots than handholding.

Cell phones can create excellent photographs. Of course, like cameras, the better equipment produces better results. Top phones / cameras cost $1000, making a used camera and lens a comparative bargain, especially when an actual camera and macro lens will product a better image than a phone in specialized situations like macro.
If you listen to everyone or find yourself always ... (show quote)

Your right. The cell phone idea is out. Right now I'm still set on the Rebel T3i, but I do like the Canon Rebel SL1 too. The SL1 is a little smaller, and does come in white. I can get it with the 18-55 lens for about $250. The Rebel T3i for about $300. It's such a big investment..plus I don't know that much about each camera...I want to make sure I get the right one, and maybe it doesn't matter which one...as they should both take good photo's. They are both 18 megpixels.

I made a comment about the SX530 on another thread. If you can go someplace and physically handle some candidate models (camera store, Best Buy, etc), it will greatly help in your decision making.

The SLR3 is brand-new, just announced yesterday, and probably only available for pre-order in a kit with a lens. The original and vII have been out for a while and are / were well regarded, but not available in white.

BTW - using the <quote reply> button is the method to respond to a specific post, where I'm guessing the white reference is the new SL3.

The SL2 is most definitely available in White, and the white SL2 comes with an off white kit lens.

The SL3 ships in late April and can be bought with ($650) or without ($550) an EF-S 18-55 lens. The white body SL3's kit lens is grey in color to match the grey highlights on the white body.

Thank you soooo much Mike. I thought that was the case, but this is what it said (I copy and pasted it)
Operating System Supported Microsoft Windows 7.

I'm looking at a Canon Rebel 3Ti, or could go older if it doesn't matter which windows is supported, as I have learned that the lens is the most important. The camera comes with a 18-55mm lens. Of course I would like one that is fairly easy to operate. Any suggestions?

Kay

You were looking at something written before Windows 10 existed.

ANY operating system can read SD cards.

A camera does not have a Windows, or any other, computer operating system.

They are both 18 megapixels but it's not the same image sensor or central processor. The internal components in the SL1 are newer and more advanced that what was used in building the T3i. Technically, the image quality of the SL1 is better than the T3i. About the only thing the T3i has on the SL1 is the articulated screen. But like I said before, the SL1 has a touch screen, making it easier to use. The T3i does not.

I have and still use memory cards with Windows 10 that I purchased to use with pre-winXP computers. Still work fine in older cameras and my newest ones. I understand that there may be a problem using the latest highest capacity SD cards with older cameras, but do you really want to put all your eggs in one basket?

Cameras and cards are like Honey Badger, they dont give a, well you know.

Welcome to your forum. It is here we have time to share our experiences in photography. There are a lot of photographer here who enjoy sharing. I would like to say that there is a tremendously fantastic response to your question. I would like to mention to use a tripod or a monopod to steady the camera and get a ring flash for your macro lens. Oh! One more thing.
Happy shooting!

Thanks. I found a good used Rebel SL1..in white..with a 18x55 lens, so I bought it. Should have it in about a week...then I'll be back here...after watching hours of youtube on how to use it. Thanks for that good info on the SL1...it really helped me.

Stick to the t3i or SL2 with the 18-55 lens It’s newer and then purchase that macro lens.

Thank you sweetheart!

I will be looking forward to this new venture, and all the fantastic photo's I'm going to learn how to take of my jewelry...so I don't have to use stock photo's anymore. I have tried before to photograph my jewelry...but believe it or not...jewelry is (especially sparkly jewelry) is very hard to get great photo's of. So...I'm really looking forward to learning how, but now that I feel I have the right equipment it will happen.
