I've used Lightroom, Power Point and other apps, and none offer the short learning curve, ease of use and built in palette of transitions that Pro Show Producer.

I did this within 30 minutes of starting the package for the first time:

ProShow Gold is the best that I have found - by far.

If sophistication is what you yearn for, it doesn't get any more sophisticated than the ProShow Gold and ProShow Producer by Photodex. Warning: Sophistication doesn't necessarily mean simple.

ProShow Gold is the starter software and Producer is the next level. I wouldn't label them as fairly simple to navigate but if you want sophistication, you will need to spend some time to learn it. But, you will be overjoyed with the results. If interested, start with the ProShow Gold, learn its features, and practice, practice, practice. Photodex has demo and tutorials.

I will not include here the several features of ProShow Gold/Producer. You can google it and check it out. Here are 2 samples of slideshows I made for two of UHH members:

The Backyard Birds by joer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQhe7oqQof8

joer's bird photos are stunning!

Flowers Part 5, Series on "F L O W E R S" (now totaling 16 parts) by Ed (Old Hippy):

Ed's floral photography is breathtaking!

Very nicely done by all three artists -

Thanks for the kind word.

Gene51, I watched your slideshow and must say your flower photos are tantalizing. I wish mine are as good as yours. For someone who just opened the package of ProShow Producer, your slideshow presentation is quite impressive.

May I ask you a couple of questions? Did you upgrade from ProShow Gold to Producer or straight to Producer? Did you use the Wizard to do the flower slideshow or you choose the features yourself? Either way, very nicely done especially by someone who just started with software right off the box. Your choice of accompanying music fits quite with the subject, as well. Thanks for sharing your slideshow presentation.

I use CyberLink PowerDirector for video editing, but it does a great job creating slideshows from stills as well.

I would love to find a good program to create fairly sophisticated slide shows with music. That being said, I would love for it to be fairly simple to use! I am really asking for a lot, I know. Any suggestions?

Faststone Image Viewer is a good free slideshow creator software. I have used it many times with good results. Have not used the music function but it is there. For free is worth a try.

Also NCH software has a couple of pieces of software which are as well performing as any, and they are free for non-commercial use.

Interesting discussion. I have been looking for some simple software to present pictures. I do not want to do anything fancy. I just have some basic requirements. With each slide I would like to display either the text from the Metadata fields "Title" or "Caption" ( as labeled in Lightroom Classic CC). Also would like the slide to display the GPS data, so during a presentation I can link to a map. I know that I can do this in LR, but frankly LR requires a computer with too high resources (cpu, ram etc). I have a basic laptop and cannot really run LR on it. I use my high end desktop for LR, but that is not portable.
Thanks

If you create a slideshow or video program using ProShow Gold or Producer, you can also make copy of the finished show into a regular DVD, Blu ray (for sure with Producer), and thumb drive drive (USB). In addition, you can upload direct to other social media such as YouTube and Facebook. If you have Vimeo, you can upload it there, as well.

Wow, thanks for all the info. One of the issues I had not thought about. In my case I just planned on loading to a thumb drive but not sure what limitations there might be on the computer being used to project to screen. Suppose I need to check that out. Thanks.

For fast and casual viewing, ProShow Gold and Producer make copy of your show into a thumb drive (a breeze). You can then watch the thumb drive in any computer or laptop with USB connector.

Now, if you want to impress your family and friends, you can connect that thumb drive into the USB connector of big, flat screen smart TV (usually have 2-3 USB ports) and with a pair of decent speakers, Voila! You'd feel like watching a movie of your slideshow or video in a theater. If you really want an even clearer picture and a theater like-sound of your show, ProShow Gold and Producer can burn you a copy to a Blu ray disc. Problem: 1) You will need a Blu ray burner or recorder to do this (about $60-80 LG, Pioneer, Samsung, etc.) and 2) Blu ray discs are expensive. I will assume you have a Blu ray player connected to the smart TV.

Good Luck.

Do any of the programs recommended here allow you to export the finished show (music included) as a QuickTime movie you can burn onto a CD?

iMovie does.
