Thanks Kalina, It was certainly a surprise to wake up to. I really can't claim any credit, just lucky to be at the right place at the right time.

Thanks Karin. Nature truly outdid herself that morning! Never have I seen anything like it before or after.

Lovely shot. Is that Mission Peninsula way in the distance?

Thanks JJS. Nature gave a real treat that morning. This is north of Old Mission Peninsula a couple of miles south of Northport. You're seeing the tree-line 11 miles across the bay.

A sunrise over Lake Michigan's Grand Traverse Bay from the Leelanau Peninsula shore. I often find the sunrise more colorful than the sunset. Last year on this October morning it was especially amazing. I invite you to Download.

Beautiful colors John

NO insult intended, but is this for real, or is it PhotoShoped?

Hi Bill, No insult taken as I wondered if I'd get this question. It was the most amazing sunrise I'd ever seen and would only be ruined with PhotoShop or anything else. I'm sending you the original. I shot it at -1ev which was a little underexposed, so my post-processing consisted of: Leveling the horizon, adding back a little exposer (maybe it's -.7 or -.8 ev) and doing a little Haze removal which helps show detail and does brighten a little. So please compare the original with what I sent in. Mother Nature provided color and the unusually detailed cloud texture.

Hi John, you are a man of honesty & integrity ... and quite a photographer. I do appreciate your answering and attaching the original for review. I find this photograph just as stunning as the original attachment.

Here's my honest take on PP software; aimed specifically at those here on UHH that can't seem to get thru life without further totally screwing up a photograph ... that was screwed up to begin with! The legend John Shaw summed up Photoshop. "Photoshop doesn't make a bad picture good; it makes a bad picture big." Anyone here on UHH who doesn't know who John Shaw is, Goggle him. It might make the photography world a better place in which to live; unless one is a hopeless, 'computer photographer.'

I have Photoshop 7.0 and here is why: PS is a necessary tool that proficiently runs my Epson Styplus Pro 4800 printer, which is used to print photos for clients. This software was purchased back in 2005 to better serve clientele for the aerial photo business - i.e. removing unsightly refuse and junk cars, et.al. from photographs. To correct uneven horizons caused by the turning and banking of the aircraft. And, to adjust EV stops if necessary. To re-shoot aerial images is cost prohibitive on both ends of the photographer/client spectrum, and out of the question.

John, if I would have taken that sunrise photo of yours, I'd have done the exact same thing to it as you did. Don't know your plans for this photo, but if it were mine it would be matted and framed for all to see, and it would get marketed.

Again, thanks for replying and sharing.

Bill
