Perhaps, it's a Nikon USA restriction? I can personally show examples where I have purchased Canon from authorized dealers at costs below MAP, successfully registered the items with Canon, and later verified warranty validity. Now, having said that, I'll be the first to admit that B&HPhoto, Adorama, Amazon (sold by authorized dealer), and Canon online (both new and refurbished) are preferred.
Numerous brands including Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax, Apple, have them. They don't include every product and the roster of products changes periodically. And,unilateral pricing has almost nothing to do with MAP. If a lens has a $1000.00 MAP and a unilateral price of $925.00, you can probably buy it for $925.00 everywhere, but you cannot buy it for $924.00 anywhere.
