Taken prior to the annual Cincinnati Reds' opening day parade. This marked the 100th anniversary of the parade and the 150th anniversary of the Cincinnati Reds, baseball's first professional team. I'm always curious to the opponent. Wouldn't they be considered a first as well?

Looks as tho the fan holding the bat wants to make their opponent the last ...
Baseball used to be such a gentle game.
That’s a nice capture, Dave--lots of characters there. Apparently the man in uniform and with the bat is ready to play.
Dave, you've captured a wide spectrum of characters.
According to Wikipedia, "While there are reports that the New York Knickerbockers played games in 1845, the contest long recognized as the first officially recorded baseball game in U.S. history took place on June 19, 1846, in Hoboken, New Jersey: the "New York Nine" defeated the Knickerbockers, 23–1, in four innings.[50] With the Knickerbocker code as the basis, the rules of modern baseball continued to evolve over the next half-century."
As for professional baseball, "Professional baseball originated in Cincinnati, Ohio. The first game played by a team where all players were professionals and received pay for playing occurred on June 1, 1869, when the Cincinnati Red Stockings defeated the Mansfield Independents, an amateur club."
