Empyrean Brewery here in Nebraska has a vanilla porter, Dark Side, that is one of my favorites. Never cared much for the very popular IPAs.

I still like my Sam Adams Boston lager and Yuengling (Pottsville Pa.) makes a nice black and tan.

10 plus years ago I used to brew at home. Many of the results were very good or even excellent. However, it got to the point where there were so many new brewers coming along I didn't want to miss out on what they were doing and haven't brewed since. I don't regret it, either.

I remember Bud, Carling Black Label, Haffenreffer, Millers, Pick Wick, and Coors was late to the party way back when, and considered pretty gourmet fair as compared to the others.

it developed a cachet since it was hard to find in the days when only mass markets brews were available - it wasnt pasteurized so wasn't legal in many states, thus developed a cultic status, but not because of anything remotely 'gourmet' - it's near tasteless

Rogue Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout is excellent if you like caramelized, dark, bitter brews. My sister lives in Ashland, OR, near the Ashland Shakespeare Festival Rogue Theatre. The brew is named for the place. (Go there if you like great theatre!) Stout is very heavy and caloric, so go easy on it...

the Rogue Brewery is now HQ'd in Newport OR, up the coast from the Rogue River, but kept the name when they moved - home of the Rogue Nation (they once applied for admission to the UN) -- their stout is one of my favorites and the brewpubs have great fish & chips. they grow most of their ingredients within OR, and have expanded to distilled spirits

Looks like a very good porter, and that was a great song by Gordon. I haven't been to the Great Lakes in 15 years, next time there I'll look for that beer. Probably won't find it in the Pacific NW.

When I lived in the Cleveland area years ago, there was some talk about Great Lakes. brewery going national

I've seen Great Lakes Brewery in WV at a Kroger store the other day . Will have to try some as I was born in Detroit, left in 1978.

If you go down to the Rehoboth Beach area visit the big Dogfish brewery, about 10 miles away from the beach (Milton, DE), you can sample most of what they are brewing, Free!

Yes. I have been there several times. I always enjoy and bring a growler of something home.

Every time I go to the supermarket, I see a new brand of beer on the shelf - generally with a funny name. Below is a list of some odd names I came across in a list of the best 100 micro brews. My daughter is a professionally certified bartender. A while back, she was working at Foothills Restaurant and Brewery in Winston-Salem, NC. Her favorite beer there was the Foothills Brewing Sexual Chocolate. It really is tasty.

NoDa Hop Drop and Roll is made in Charlotte, in the North Davidson Area brewery. It is a very good hoppy beer.

I need to try Funky Buddha Maple Bacon Coffee Porter just for the name.

Used to be in Ohio you couldn't taste a supermarket sample beer unless you put a coin in a collection cup. I guess it was illegal to give away beer. I don't know if this still is true.

I love the variety of new micro brews now. I have had quite a few of the beers on your list. The nice thing about all these new micro brewed beers is that they are not selling a zillion of them so they can make a beer to satisfy lots of different tastes. I have a fairly wide range of tastes in beers but there are lots of beers that I don't like. There are a huge number of one and done beers out there for me. It makes beer drinking more interesting for me. Generally I don't like the new rage over IPA's. Yet There are two local IPA's that are great.
Now in terms of names my favorite is "Burn The Ships". Its an IPA from a local NH brewery and it's the second best IPA I have ever had. Abe Ebareazer (sp?) brewery. Great name for a beer. #1 best IPA is Black from Pipe Dreams brewery another local NH brewery. Pipe Dreams changes two or 3 of their 10 beers every couple of weeks.
In terms of my go to beer (to cleanse the palette(sp?)) it's Miller Lite.
