Affinity Photo Editor on sale. $39.99

Been thinking of trying out Affinity Photo editor and when I logged on the other day it was $52. Logged on today to get it and it is on a "Spring Sale" for $39.99, so I had to get it. No idea how long a spring sale will last, but preliminary thoughts (edited one picture successfully w/o reading any directions) are it is a very good deal for those who don't have PS CC.

I use PS CS2 which works fine, but I got ants in my pants for Affinity. The same ants people get when needing a new camera for no reason... can't think of what hoggers call that, but you don't have to wait for the brown truck for software.

G.A.S. for gear, so I guess it's S.A.S. for software? Thanks for posting this info, BigDaddy!

Bummer. That's what usually happens to me. In this case though, it's not too much cash either way. PS used to cost $600 plus, now a monthly fee. Both amounts are more for people making money from it IMO. $10/month not too bad, but I go months where I don't use it at all, or not much, and I sell nothing so it's iffy for me. It's not so much the cash for me, but the "justification". (ie, I'm cheap). Also, my wife would likely be paying the fee long after I'm toast. There is no doubt PS is the top of the line in editors, it does everything well.

So far, Affinity looks like it does most of what PS does. I read somewhere it's weak on curves adjustment layer but so far seems OK to me. Also wondering about actions, I use them often as well. I understand the new PS CC has more sophisticated selection tools than CS2, so I'll be interested to see how Affinity does there. Hair is always a pain to select.

Since I lucked out on the sale, I expect a new version that does everything, including make you breakfast, to be released very soon:-) In fact, I was looking into when the last update was when I tripped over the sale, so I bought it with no further thought...

Though I don't think breakfast was mentioned, lol, here's one recent PP Forum topic where you can find a few Affinity users and more information: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-584098-1.html

That's an interesting point about how the monthly fee of PS might start to niggle if you don't use the software regularly

During the sale apparently every Affinity product is 20% off. I've found their Affinity Photo Workbook helpful in learning the program. It's expensive at $49.99 but is $39.99 during the sale which helps a bit. I believe the sale ends April 3 although one source said today.

They do seem to be keeping the sale end date a secret: https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/store/

I tried the Beta version prior to its release and when the finally started to sell Affinity Photo they gave me a fantastic price on it that I cannot remember but it was considerably better than the original price.
Today Affinity is my main editor. Like all new software it has a learning curve but once you master the basics many other parameters are available that enhance our photography. I cannot discuss all that is available in Affinity but there is a filter I like very much and it is the Haze Filter. I use it to bring more details to the sky and it works to perfection. The majority of what is done with Affinity is automatically placed on layers protecting the original.
It is a great editing software.
